Loss of coolant

Featured Replies

Hello guy's

I'm a newbie to this site and read a few posts about coolant issues but still at a loss so hoping that someone can help me out,l.

ive got a 57plate vrs diesel pd170.

A couple of months ago the bottom hose had to be replaced due to having a split in it, a month or so later the same happened to the top hose so replaced that aswel, now since then we've had problems with loss of coolant (which is going out the overflow due to too much pressure for some reason) vents only blowing out hot if the car is being driven or revved up other than that it's always cold, and car temperature going over 90 degrees and sometimes it's hit just under the red but the bottom hose or the radiator never gets hot. I've also recently had the thermostat replaced as the old 1 wasn't opening but still got the same problems only now with added foaming in the tank coming in from the return pipe.  Car still drive's mint with no smoke or loss of power.

Sorry for the long message but hopefully it makes some sort of sense to someone as I'm not mechanically minded.

Thanks in advance

Has the water pump ever been changed?

Can't be 100% on that Wino but since owning the car I've had a lot of thing's changed or replaced especially down the water pump side, with water returning once started doesn't that mean the pump is working fine. Sorry if that sounds a little thick but like I said I ain't mechanically minded

One possible cause is a blowing head gasket which would account for pressure and foam in the radiator, anomalous behaviour of the temperature gauge and lack of hot water feed to the heater.

A good test is to check for white oil emulsion around the engine oil filler cap or water droplets on the dipstick.

Thanks Mike.

Oil cap and dipstick are both fine. I'm actually out trying to sort it now, to me it feels like a big air lock but got no idea how to release it as it's only foaming when you give it a little rev.

Have you had the thermostat replaced I’d start with that if you lower coolant pipes are not getting hot then it’s possibly seized closed and not allowing coolant threw
