Tyre choice

Whatever you get makesure they're extra load (XL), a requirement for all Superb's.

Initially had 18" wheels but moved to 16" in the first winter of ownership and been on them since then - a big improvement in mpg and more comfortable ride on the roads round here.

Until May this year ran Continental Wintercontact ts 850 tyres all year round (climate in rural Aberdeenshire not that warm and roads invariably wet) and that worked perfectly for my circumstances.

Found the ts850 to be great tyres, quiet and good handling in all weather - last set lasted 21k miles.

Now on Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2 tyres as got them through a special deal that made them nearly 50% cheaper than replacement ts860's.

So far, seem okay - no real difference seen in handling/noise in summer conditions, the real test will come when the first snow and ice appears around here.

I have a set of GY Vector 4S G2's waiting for me at our local tyre fitters, for my wifes Golf.  It was a tossup between those, the Cross Climate +'s or the Vredestein Quatrac 5's (which I currently have on my 280).  I took a punt on the Vectors as they seem to get consistently good reviews and have more of a Winter bias than the CC's which I think will be better for the local roads and weather.

Spoilt for choice with all-season tyres on a 205/55 R16 car but mine with 235/40 R19 is literally the Vredesteins, Maxxis AP2's or Wan-Li WU WU's for £2.74 a corner.

At £2.74 a corner now that's a bargain :)

Well purchased 2 Continental PremiumContact 6 today. Put these on the front and put the GY A3’s on the rear. First impressions, the steering is a lot sharper and the car does not dive as much in corners. I would not say they are any quieter than the GY’s but massively over the sawtoothed Falkens they replaced. Only drove a few miles so will give it a week and see how they go.

I do have to mention Walkers Tyres in Wigston Leicester, excellent service, very knowledgeable and very helpful would recommend them if your in the area.

My original Continentals (205/55/16) were not XLs. The replacements Michelin Crossclimates are though

Ah yeah, I forgot the Greenline came with 16's. The higher sidewall must negate the need for XL.

The Superb gained some bad press after launch during the infamous 'Elk / Moose Test', resulting in a change to tyre specs and an increase in tyre pressures.

and the poverty S model

What is your opinion on Barum polaris 3 in 205/55 R16 size for Superb. I am buying new tires for this winter and I can get those for really cheap price compared to premium tires, but not quite shore how will they preform. Did anyone here had them on,and how did the preform?

Never had them myself, but there are several MkII Octavia Scout owners that have run them in the past and like them a lot.
