Buy a banged up old car with obvious door damage for use as a shopping trolley. You'll probably notice no-one wants to park next to you!

I am always wary of parking. I too park away from a busy area. My kids say they need a shuttle bus after I have parked. Years ago I had a Fiat Multipla and it has a wide girth. I parked it in an empty area of a retail park car park and I found kids had pushed a supermarket trolley into it denting the rear door and front wing on my return. A few spaces away was a new black XF jag which was left alone.

Not too long ago my wife's 3 month old car was hit on the rear corner whilst parked causing a few 100£'s worth of damage which we had to pay out of our own pocket. We assume from the damage that they could not be bothered reversing and just put it on full-lock and shunted our car out of the way.

We had the car repaired at the local VAG body-shop who I must say did an excellent job.

Got the car back the amount of work needed for a simple repair is amazing

That's because they are milking someone's insurance company.

Think you are right there.

Not so sure the repair cost would have to be agreed by an insurance assessor. They cant charge what they like

If the other persons insurance contacts you and pays fro the repair direct, you may not need to claim. It is then up to you if you mention it to your insurance company or not. The other insurer will almost certainly want to keep it quiet as they will be hit with a bigger claim otherwise!

They already know, both insurance companies were LV= but they put me down as information only and apparently it will not affect my policy.

The repair garage resprayed the font door and rear wing where the damage was.There was a small scratch on the rear wing above the wheel arch so that got repaired at the same time so two repairs in one go.

Had my renewal quote through,went on Confused.Com and the same quote from the same company was £53 cheaper!.Rang them up and agreed to match the lower price.
