Uncontrolled unlocking

Featured Replies

My Kodiaq registered January 2017 has the same unlocking problem. Twice l have returned to the car to find the rear tailgate fully open!

It's always difficult to determine in these situations if it is a genuine issue with the car, or whether the boot button on the key fob is being inadvertently pressed whilst in range.

There have been a few reports of the boot only opening ajar, which might suggest the button was being pressed in the drivers pocket, once to open the boot and a further press to stop it in situ.

Similar reports with the windows opening by themselves, a long press of the unlock button will drop all four windows.

It may well be a genuine issue, in which case a visit to the dealer is in order. Keep us posted.

Hi BobFerguson, you talk about "the same unlocking problem" but there are no previous entries on this thread.  Where did the problem originate?

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had that more than once including once where I found it open on my driveway on my return to the house so it must have been open all day! I've done it accidentally in my pocket a few times so I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the car as such.

That said, it's another reason why I'd rather just have a manual tailgate.

I understand.

I am now using a belt loop that the key hangs on, this prevents any part of the key being compressed while in the pocket.

I have had no further problems since using this.

Yes it is a problem with all Skoda kessy keys. Far too easy to press the middle button when it’s in your pocket, eg by bending down etc. I had several uncommanded boot openings when I first got my Superb. On advice from here, I got a cheapo leather key holder from Amazon and it hasn’t happened since.
