Citigo Sat-Nav/PID Questions...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions regarding the Citigo/VW/Mii Sat-Nav...

1) If my car has the pins/contacts under the blanking plate, does this mean it'll work with the Sat-Nav?

2) Will the Sat-Nav work if I replace the stereo system in the car with a 3rd Party unit?

My Citigo didn't come with the Sat-Nav, but looking online, it looks like it's a very useful bit of kit...

1) Yes the PID will work plug and play with the factory fit stereo

2) No it won't work with an aftermarket unit

Thanks for this.

I'm not interested in the media parts working with the aftermarket stereo - just the vehicle information and possibly the phone. Is the answer still the same?

Still the same re phone, not sure if it gets the CANBUS vehicle info via the stereo or direct.

Toby,

just a quick question - is you car an original Citigo or a facelift Citigo?

If it's an original then Greenstripe's info about the sat nav is accurate.

If it's a facelift car then the wiring is far a slightly different bracket that connects to your mobile phone instead.

Whilst the hole in the dash is the same, the two systems aren't interchangeable

She's a 2015 (15 Plate), so non-facelift I believe.

Do you know whether the vehicle info and nav work without the original stereo?

Sorry Toby, I don't

The nav definitely does as that part is just a garmin sat nav and will work off the vehicle.

Cheers for that - Just need to see if I can find a definitive answer as to whether the Vehicle Information part will work.

I like the idea of being able to view engine temps etc.

Would the Torque or similar app not work for you - with a Bluetooth OBD2 reader if you want that kind of info

I think your best bet is to find a PID to borrow for 5 minutes. You are a bit far from me but there must be someone closer to you  that you could meet.

I'm in Berkshire but have family in Hertfordshire, of I can I don't mind dropping by you and letting you try my PID in your car if you like?

I would have thought the car data must come in on the Canbus direct from the ECM as the PID operates regardless of whether the radio is on or not. I think you should be safe putting an aftermarket ICE in there.

Obviously if you do that you will have no media or phone capability other than that which may come with the new radio.

The phone will Bluetooth to the pid but the only voice you will get will be on the pid's speaker as there is no connection to the aftermarket radio.

Ahh yes, forgot about that.

Cheers guys. I'm hoping to get my new stereo fitted soon so will possibly revisit the PID then :)
