Tires

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I want to get myself a new complete set of tires for winter, but I don't know if the TPMS is set on the wheel or is taking the information from the ABS. Basically, I need to know if I have to order TPMS separately or not.

Anyone who has fitted new tires can give me some feedback?

Thanks! :)

AFAIK Karoq TPMS is using the ABS...

Tyre pressure is not directly monitored. Difference in rotation speed of the wheels is. If one is different from the other three, you get a warning.

If you replace all 4 wheels with wheels of a different diameter, there is no fault warning, as their rolling speed are all the same. No need to do anything.

If you replace the wheels and tyres or even just adjust tyre pressures you reset the TPMS.

The circumference is what matters, from the setting to the wheels rotation.

So yes the tyre pressures and size might be the same but one tyre heating more than the other can throw a warning.

So it is not even if one is different from the other 3.

You can set the TPMS when the front tyres as a pair are different from the rear, and then it is the other one on that axle it is comparing with.

You can have 19" wheels and tyres on the front & 18" on the rear and the tyre circumference almost the same but slightly different.

Set the TPMS, it is not going to throw a warning.

Same if you fit the Spare tyre, so an odd one out, reset the TPMS, it might never give a TPMS warning, but when you put the original wheel tyre back on you need again to reset the TPMS.

Thank you all for your feedback! :)

Seems strange to me that there is no requirement that the car be in motion,  proceeding on a straight path when the resetting is invoked.
