Key fob not working after low car battery

Featured Replies

Hello :)

I accidentally left an interior light on in the car overnight, one of the ones above your head. I unlocked the car using the remote key fob and it was fine, however then when I tried to lock it again the key fob stopped working!

I can can still get in the car by unlocking it in the door. I turned the engine on and it started exactly the same as normal. I haven’t driven it yet but have been advised by friends to take it for a drive on the dual carriageway to charge up the battery some more.

Could the key fob not working be related to the drain on the car battery? The battery isn’t completely flat or it wouldn’t have started so easily, but I didn’t know if it could be the reason.

If not, I’m guessing it’s the battery in the key fob which needs replacing...but it seems a bit coincidental given the timing!

thanks

A new battery for the key fob is incredibly cheap, test your theory about coincidence by at least changing it first, if you're not confident you can get it done in Timpsons for peanuts.

By all means come back if the problem persists.

CR2036 battery of the VW shape key and you literally pull the key in two and pop the new battery in.
