Air con issues

Recommended Posts

Hi, looking for some help.

I have a 2011 superb estate tdi, when I got the car six months ago I noticed that the air con wasn't working and vcds was showing low pressure on aircon. I got it regassed and it was noted that there was no gas in the system. All worked ok but after a few weeks the air con started making sucking noises which previous experience told me that pressure was dropping. After about three months it stopped working again due to low pressure. No leaks showed up under uv and it was gassed again. Again all was well for a few weeks until noise started again. It's still working at this point but the noises are present. The noise starts when aircon is turned on (sucking noises) but also when turned off when moving (engine revs above idle) there is a sound like brake disks rubbing which stops when aircon is turned on. I think it must be the compressor but my garage see no issue. Anyone experienced anything like this?

When my a/c went my local specialist said that there was a leak and this was from the pulley end of the compressor. A new compressor was fitted with no need to have the condenser replaced as I had the R134a? gas that does not absorb moisture. Ironically my local indy serviced the a/c at the last service , in June and did not report any fault. a/c was crap and new compressor fitted in August!

Wise words from @silver1011 specialist all the way avoid the local garage who are not specialists.

I paid £410 for a new compressor, the air con can get lost sometimes, doesn't always blow as cold as I think it should but it is working, VAG a/c isn't the best in my opinion.

I would have agreed when I had my mk I Superb with climate control - worked fine but somehow took a while. However it was set and forget.

With my manual a/c on my mk II  (not climate) it chills quickly and actually gets too cold so I end up turning the air con off and on some of the time(bit of a piain) - I somehow can't make myself turn a bit of heat on when it's 30deg outside! - Next car will have climate control.

Was a bit underwhelmed with the climate control on a courtesy Kodiaq I had a couple of months ago at the height of the hot weather. I've since found out on this forum you can set a stronger mode in the menus - At the time I was worried it was the new type of gas.
