Sunroof leaking

Featured Replies

..well I assume it is, as I notice water under my passenger mat when I went to shake/clean dirt off it before going away last week. A quick search of the internet has brought up issue with the sun roof drain, so I'm assuming the leak must be due to this (just back from holiday and we decided take her car instead) as there was water drips underneath the bonnet catch. So what the best way to deal with this? I bought the car in April from as a "trust skoda" and it's 3 years old at the end of this month. Is it a quick push a thin wire down the drain tube and be done with it, or go and ask the dealer, and then do I ask (insist) for it to be done under the skoda warranty or the 2nd hand car sale warranty? I've seen there is an upgrade that can be done, but if I'm having to pay out for labour, is it worth it?

If the car is still under 3 years old then any repairs should be done under that warranty, and none other.
If you report it by phone to the dealer before the warranty expires you should be ok.

Upgrade.?.....................to find leaks?

Yes I agree 100 percent, this is good advice  Report the fault before the warranty expires. It will save you a 'whole load of pain'! The Dealer will probably say it is a blocked drain and sometimes this can be the case, however there is seal between the plastic tray and the roof and this is a common failure fault on the Yeti sunroofs. Search on this forum, there are quite a few threads on owners problems with them. I know since I had the same problem.

Poor grammer

A couple of years ago had the car in for a rattle in the sunroof and that was corrected under a service instruction FOC,fortunately I never had an issue with it leaking ,IF there is an instruction to upgrade the roof drainage system get I’d get it done ASAP anyway but this may not be the cause of the leak.

Cheers, all booked in for inspection (fix?) Wednesday, did love the lady saying it was an not a common issue, though she had just booked another skoda in with the same issue... just called back to confirm the date, and the guy this time say they will not fix it, if it's debris in the pipe, as this is not a manufacturing fault.

TBF if it is just debris, how easy is it to clear out?

So no upgrade then?

Hi, it is dead simple to check if the drains are clear. Open the sunroof and front doors. Pour some water into the tray near the 2 front corners. If they are clear, the water will exit though rubber grommet type hole, inside the open door, halfway up the A pillar above the sill. You can't miss it if the drain is clear! If not, you could try compressed air (I used my 12v tyre inflator). But be gentle! Again you can easily feel the airflow through a clear drain. As I  mentioned in an earlier post. I was initially 'fobbed off' with the 'blocked drains with debris' excuse, only to discover it was a 'common' seal failure. Sorted now thankfully.

Ref the "seal failure" you mentioned in the above post. Do you know exactly what's involved with this fix?...just wondering as we have a sunroof and I am now getting paranoid I will wake up one morning, open the doors and water will run out!     I will be checking the drains on mine tomorrow!

All this info MIGHT be helpful to karrots owners in the future!

Well they inspected it yesterday, and even though when I dropped it off, they were still suggesting it would probably just be debris which would be a £60 charge* to clear. Called me up and they will be replacing the front two pipe and the front carpet , just awaiting parts, I'm a happy man.

*I did ask what I would do to avoid the issue in future and they suggested it was best to ask them to check/clear, when in for servicing..

I've had a similar problem (now I'm out of the 5 year warranty I paid for and sunroofs are excluded from the year-on-year one - well they would be). Only happened once and that was when t was parked in torrential rain so I don't know if it was just the sheer volume of water overwhelmed the capacity of the drainage tubes. Did the check of pouring water in the corners and the drains were running freely. Since that day it's been pretty much dry or the car's been under the car port so I'm waiting with crossed fingers to see what happens when winter arrives. It's been nice having the sunroof although for me more because it makes the cabin so light rather than the extra breeze through the car but after this experience and seeing the problems others report (and the extraordinary cost of a repair - the car's only five years old and I can't really come to terns with duct taping over the gaps and spraying as a solution) I'm not sure I would have another one.

Well mine started leaking again, so back it went to skoda, who after running it though 2 car washes found that the sunroof surround was cracked, so replace that. Which was nice, so hopefully fully water tight now.

WIll just add, were always quick to name companies for bad service, so thought it worth saying this work was completed by Trust Skoda in Stourbridge.

Many thanks to them, it is much appreciated
