Soft clutch but can't see a leak

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I flew to Leeds today to pick up my 2015 Scout. About 100 miles into the trek to Cairnryan for the ferry the clutch started sticking halfway.

I quickly Google mapped the closest garage. By the time I made it the pedal was completely flat to the floor, but I'd kept it in 2nd and barely got there.

Mechanic on duty opened up the reservoir and the fluid was full.

I pumped the pedal with the cap off and clutch came back hard.

I made it to the ferry with a few stops along the way to pump the clutch like mad as it kept going soft.

I'm guessing fluid is shared with the brakes and it's the rectangular reservoir on the top left with the yellow cap?

I'm currently sat on the ferry hoping I can get home when we stop.

Could it just need bled or is it more likely the master / slave need replacing?

I pumped the pedal by hand once and could hear a slight hiss / air sound.  That made me think seals are done and it's sucking in air?

Am I safe to pump it like f#*k to drive home or could it fail completely?

Thanks.

Im going to hazard a guess and if say it could be the slave cylinder could be on the way out or there could be on the way out.

My mk 2 octivia clutch pedal done some thing similar. Went completely to the floor. The slave cylinder failed.

Did you get it fixed at the dealers or independent garage?

Do you remember the cost?

I went to the local garage I use. Think I payed a couple of hundred quid if I remember.
