Vcds led light coding.

Featured Replies

Having read all the threads, a deciding to let a local garage with vcds code my rear led lights i am know left with no daylight running lights and still a bulb warning. Anyone local to Liverpool with vcds able to have a look. Or give advice.

Depending on the software (both the car's and the used diagnostic), VCDS might not be enough, be sure to have ODIS as a backup solution

Presumably your local garage has messed with Byte 18. Big mistake if you don't know what you're doing...

Yup, sounds like the garage has messed up.

Have you got a VCDS autoscan showing what BCM you have? Next step is to find someone with VCP or ODIS-e to fix the light config.

Can't get an auto scan not got access to VCDS.

Did I miss something?

The garage that did the original coding didn't give me the scan results. And after messing it up anyway and having to get my money back.i wouldn't let them near the car again.

Might be worth dropping @James@Pentagon_Seat a message.

I believe they have VCP and are based in Manchester so not massively far from you assuming your profile is correct.

Thank very much will send him a message.

Gone back to standard, with a bulb warning on dash. Will be selling the LED rear lights once I have got standard new ones. Byte 18 coded to 31 on VCDS if anyone interested.

Basically, you didn't solve the problem ... :)

I had the same issue.

Ran them for a year or so (with them operating brighter than they should and with the on-dash bulb warning), then tried to code them properly.

Had a bit of a nightmare, resulting in me too losing my front DRL's temporarily.

In the end it was determined the LED rear lights were not compatible with my BCM, a newer one would be needed.

By this stage I'd had enough of asking for favours off Briskoda members with VCDS and my local dealer, so put the original non-LED clusters back on.

See here...

I will probably do the same, I only needed a n/s lamp( the missus smashed it) but got the FL led ones cheap from a breakers yard £120 For both sides. Once I pick up a standard one I will be going back to standard bulbs, so will just put up with the warning light for now. I think it can be done on my version BCM but you need to edit the coding with ODIS-E. I don't have access to that and not letting anyone play around who doesn't know what they are doing.

I had that done on my car, which has one of the earliest BCMs on the Superbs, no bulb error (the LED licence plate lights are cheap ones, no CAN-BUS)

It wasn't just the bulb-error warning for me, the lower strip of LED's were illuminating at 'brake light' brightness with the headlights turned on but the brakes off.

The upper LED's and all other functions worked fine, but I got a few flashes from people thinking I had my rear fog lights turned on.

Hard to tell in this photo but the lower horizontal strip are illuminated at brake light brightness...

I see you've retrofitted the L&K's tail lights, or did they come with the car? :) It all comes down to proper coding ... if there are cars on which this tail lamp setup works as it should, it should work on yours as well, you just need to get the right technician to do the job

Even with the right coding from VAS-PC it didn't work. The brightness and function was correct but it would give bulb warnings.

I believe this is because the BCM was too old. We did try updating it's software but that also made no difference.

VAS-PC

I'm not an expert in coding, but I know there are actually big differences in the available software, and their features ... ODIS-E being top tier of what you can do to the VAG car, anything lower than that might not have full access to all the required specific module EEPROM blocks (how I know - I've see that piece of kit in action, you wouldn't believe what is actually possible with it, things we usually discuss on the VCDS level seem trivial compared to that, the issue is that it is very rare and the full knowledge of it isn't easily accessible online - a trade secret obviously)

VAS-PC has a function for setting up LED rear clusters on MY12 or MY13 onwards vehicles.

I also used ODIS-e to inspect the changes which matched other cars with the same clusters but newer BCMs.

ODIS-e is quite a powerful tool in the right hands, I've certainly done plenty with it.

You can make an Audi out of an Skoda (without the quattro) ... :D

Yes, these are the lights from the L&K, the separate thread linked above showed the retro-fit procedure I followed.

I'm assuming this is what the OP has done, unless he's fitted different LED rear lights / bulbs?

No mine are from a FL estate 2014 model. Like langers said Odis-e is great tool in the right hands, but in the wrong ones very dangerous.20181015_121340.thumb.jpg.4646850410bed45f541f246984e34684.jpg

I experienced all sorts of weird results when trying different coding.

Dim tails, alternate sided rear fogs, dim fogs, fogs operating as brake lights etc. etc.

Scary stuff.

Looks like if you want to persevere with the facelift LED rear lights you'll need a newer BCM. Basically you have the same issue I had.

Yeah new BCM needed, I've made the change to FL LED tail lights on my estate. Langers2k was very helpful in swapping the BCM and coding up correctly - been running a couple of years without issue now.
