Fabia Gearbox

Featured Replies

I have a 2006 1.2 Fabia with 70k miles on the clock. Unfortunately it has developed a intermittent knocking sound when being driven. I am told by the local garage, who has shown me small bits on metal in the oil that the gearbox needs replacing. However before I let them go ahead I was wondering whether a failed gearbox mount would cause the same symptoms and if it would be worth replacing this first before spending £1000+ on a replacement the box. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Anti-roll bar droplinks are a very common cause of intermittent knocking noises on Fabias. Find a deserted stretch of road and at low speed try waggling the steering fairly vigorously one way and the other repeatedly. Try to start a rolling motion of the body, all the while listening for that same knocking noise. If you can provoke the noise like this, get the droplinks checked/replaced.

Id get a second opinion.

Or ask them if the gearbox is changed and the knock is still there will you get a full refund?
