Electric window woes

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am suddenly having problems with my vrs electric windows.

my windows have stopped working unless I pull the fuse out & put it back in again but this only lasts a few minutes.

both windows work for a while after doing this using controls from drivers side & passenger side, then they both go off.

I have checked previous posts & have checked/unplugged wiring at door. renewed fuses but problem is still there.

is my only option a new drivers side motor?

is it true that the motor includes an ecu too?

thanks for your help

Couple of questions:

Does your battery light come on when you switch on the ignition, and go out again when you start the engine? If it doesn't appear, it can be that your battery isn't getting charged properly.

Does the car suffer from water ingress, making the cabin a damp environment? (Usually the rear door carrier seals leaking).

When our Fabia suffered similar symptoms a couple of winters back, I soon after had to replace the battery, and discovered that the rear screenwash was leaking into the cabin making it damp.

I fixed both issues simultaneously so I don't know which had the beneficial effect on the windows, but the trouble went away completely and has never returned.

I thought it must be,

any idea of part number & is it easy to do?

Need to check your window motor for the part number, there are a few variants.

Easy to change.

can I see part number if I take window switch off or will I need to take panel off?

The door trim will need to come off.

ok, will I need a handful of clips like the rear doors?

ok, just spoke to local dealer who says part no is : 6Y2959802SK4

does anyone know what the SK4 part of coding relates to?

Skoda-specific software, version 4, at a guess?

Funnily enough, I had window issues and it seemed to be caused by either damp or dirt getting at the actual switches. I needed to keep re-setting the auto mode on them. I ended up replacing the switch and all has been well since. This is only related to the auto function, though so if your windows won't open/close at all, it might not be so simple!

thanks for that.
