Hi out there 67 plate superb Columbus system how do I get CD to work please

1. Insert CD into drive, in glovebox.

2. Navigate to Media > Source > CD/DVD, via the headunit.

Hi @Coniferman. You will find very quickly that it is pretty much impossible to swap CDs safely on the move unless you have a front seat passenger to do it for you.

If it were legal in the UK I'd recommend putting them onto an SD card. Exact Audio Copy is a good free application you can download, and would be the one I would have used if it weren't illegal to copy CD's I've already paid for onto an SD card I've already paid for, for my own use while driving, as I can't use the CDs I've already paid for due to Skoda positioning the CD slot 6 feet too far to the left to be able to be reached safely while driving... :x

Allegedly you can store the CDs as FLAC files, which means you don't lose the audio quality in the same way as, say MP3. If I'd ever done such a thing I would be able to confirm that they sound fantastic:biggrin:

As far as I am aware its perfectly legal to make a copy of a CD or rip it to another format providing you own the CD and its for your own use only.

But it does become an illegal if you sell or give away the original CD.

Most if not all modern "music" as played by the BBC and particularly commercial stations ought to be made illegal full stop. Chinese water torture delivered by electronic means with Simon Cowell  as tap controller.:bandit:

This is from 2015. Not sure if it has changed since then.

Interesting.

If it were to be enforced the courts would be clogged up with cases for years, no time for murderers and rapists to appear in court.

As the article suggest, the ruling was probably just symbolic.

Off to Rip some more CD's after digitising some Vinyl.

Didn't think CDs existed any more. :shake:

What's vinyl, grandad?? :emo:

How do I load your collection of favourites?

Its the replacement for the CD.

Just look in any HiFi mag and there are regular tests of new to the market decks and reviews of new releases.

I got in before it became popular, bought my first single in about 1963 and LP in probably 1973.

Try it, you don't know what you are missing.

But the buggers don't half skip when you try and play them in the car.

Looking at this as a retrofit.

Do you think it would fit in the glove-box?:D

Nah, I would fit it on the rear parcel shelf in order to get a surround sound effect.

May be against the law but as a civil case the damages are the loss suffered by the copyright holder . . .

What loss have they suffered - the sale price of the music on an SD card?  But they don't sell it in that form.

I copy my own CDs for my own use and will never be in court for copyright infringement as there is no loss to the copyright holder.  THere is a box of CDs in the loft some of which have been read once, by the PC when they were ripped, and never played.

We need to get back to musicians generating income by performing their music, not from playing it once in a studio and selling recordings.

I read somewhere that singing or humming a tune can be an infringement of copyright.

And Apple owns the trademark on the letter i so be careful what you write.

I know of at least one UK, yes UK, high end manufacturer of hi-fi that openly markets a CD ripper for the UK and other countries. They also supply the hi-fi for Bentley. You can't copy DVD's because of coding built in to the DVD but CD's should be manufactured to the 'Redbook' standard which does allow ripping. Indeed, if it won't rip then you can legally ask for a refund because that would show that the CD hasn't been manufactured to the 'Redbook' standard and should not have been sold as a CD.
