Featured Replies

I need to do a top up on my 1.4 TDS pd engine

there are so many on opine oils I am not sure which to choose

the service I got in may just said do oil

can you fellows help please

cheers

geof

Any oil that meets vw specification 507.00 or 505.01  will do.

Do not use 505.00 spec oil under any circumstances.

Oilman can advise further about oils from Opie oils

Thanks...I have been coming onto the same warnings on older posts but needed to really get it clear in my head.

dont know really what’s in the engine except the description DP...which covers me

the garage I go to has serviced this car before I bought it..that’s 2 years now.

I can wait till Oilman checks in.  The level isn’t quite on the low end of the dipstick cross hatching and only recently showed a slight change in level..4000 miles

I will be going up to Bristol soon.. 330 miles total.. so I want to set off with a top up in place.

no use having a max mark unless one uses it...coolant and tyre pressures!

cheers and thanks again

geof

Ps edit.  Opies have an offer on Castrol edge 10/30 and 10/40

i got those results from 507 and 505.01

is it better on my 80k engine to use the 10/40?

Hi Geof,

As already mentioned to top up with on a pd the oil will need to meet either VW507.00 (usually 5w-3) and VW505.01 (usually 5w-40). Make sure it has either of these specs on the bottle. You can get some from me or if you are in a hurry you can find oils on t4he shelf all over the place. I always recommend going for a reputable brand.

Castrol do not do an Edge 10w-30 or 10w-40?

Cheers,

Guy

Thanks and you are right

Went to opies and bought a litre of 5/40 505.01 at £10.

Now I feel more secure with all the info from here and the chap at opies went through all the vw PD oils with me to make sure I got the right ones.

They did have 540/570 which was 5/30 but my last service sheet at the garage showed an oil fill with 10/40 PD oii.

My fabia is on 88000 and I thought the 40 was consistent enough to chose for an older engine.  I shall probably only add around 100 ml to top up and last till next May when the service and MOT is due.

I may then see if the garage will use the Castrol 505.01 and I can buy it for them, or they do it, should be some left over then.

Cheers

The code had expired, I do not know why it was not updated. Anyway, all good now the BRISKODA code works just fine.
