Black Badges (Monte Carlo style)

Featured Replies

Hi fellow Karoquers! First up, many thanks for all the excellent responses to my previous (and first) enquiry regarding Black Alloy Wheels. Thanks to advice and pics sent me by fellow forum member NZPETE who runs a white Karoq, I've decided to go down the powder-coating route for a fraction of the cost of ordering (and waiting an indeterminate length of time!) for the Mytikas I was ideally wanting from Skoda.

Have found a pro-wheel-coating specialist near where I lived, and am getting the deed done next week (have also checked with my insurance company and they say there's no probs with any "modification" malarkey).

So to the black badges/emblems/lettering on the bonnet and tailgate.

Again, thanks to a forum member who kindly posted some links, including one to this outfit - http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/KAROQ/Emblems/ - as I understand it, the emblems/badges and lettering found here are bona fide after-market items which can be purchased directly from the site.

However, I have no idea as to how to safely remove the existing (chrome/plastic/whatever they are) badges/emblems and letters without potentially damaging the paintwork or panels :worried:

I've been told by my local Skoda dealership that the standard replacement badges/emblems and letters have an adhesive pad or backing of some sort (which I assume the after-market ones do too), but there are no instructions or guidelines as to how to go about removing the original badges/emblems and letters.

Anyone here had any experience in this respect?

Grateful if anyone has any info

Thoroughly enjoying the motor, having driving around 500 miles in 2 journeys over 3 days with nary a problem and, importantly, no back-ache, even from not stopping for almost 4 hours in one hit

Now wanting to make it a little 'unique' with the black wheels, badges/emblems, lettering - and am even considering a roof-wrap in black...

super skoda badges and lettering are not after market they are OEM, You remove the old letters with dental floss first warm with hair dryer. The badges pop out from the back

Awesome advice skoda1982 - I had no idea the badges and letters were original equipment manufacturer!

Be gentle with the hot air as too much hot air becomes expensive. :shake:

Boil the kettle, make a coffee or cup of tea, or just carry on with the job in hand,

then a little cold water in the kettle to make a little cooler, pour over the badges / letters being removed,

then do the badge removal thing, hair drier, fishing line. dental floss etc etc.

The :giggle: emoji was for Danny57 - I'm still getting used to how the forum works, especially when trying to reply directly to someone's response to something I've posted. I'm sure I'm missing something 'cause I'm usually reasonably tech-proficient :handshake:

I don't think an hair dryer gets that hot. The sun on an hot day gets hotter.

My numb nuts idea was to use an electric paint stripper on its lowest setting and gently wave it at the badges. Melted the upper grille chrome trim. Badges free curtesy of my dealer upper chrome trim £79 though it did include a chrome trimmed grille.:shake:
