Dash Cam Connection

Featured Replies

I want to fit a dash cam. Been to Halfords but they can't find a suitable outlet in the fuse box. They say they will try to use their data base and system to answer this problem but can anybody indicate if they have met/solved this. Apparently with keyless lockable cars there is a tendency for the electrics to be live all the time and understandably Halfords want to connect to a fuse that is dead when the car is locked and ignition off. Any ideas? I have asked at the Dealer and they don't want to know. No help there.

Hi @DickJ,

Shouldn't be hard for them to find a free slot that's switched live. In any case, a hardwire kit will normally allow you to piggy-back the original fuse onto the dashcam fuse. The Nextbase hardwire kit also has a voltage sensor built-in, and shuts itself off if the car battery voltage drops too low. For this reason, I opted to put mine into a permanently-live socket to take advantage of the parking mode at all times (battery usually lasts around 2 hours if it has no power, but if it's on a permanent live, it runs constantly).

Hope this helps. There's a great thread here that might be of use:

I piggy backed off the rear wiper fuse. I have keyless system and no issues with it. The rear wiper fuse is ignition fed so goes off/on when ignition is turned off/on

I think you've said before, but can you remind me which fuse position that is please? I plan to use the same one when mine turns up.  Cheers.

Ill have to check the manual, unless someone else knows which number it is.

No worries, think I found it In the manual - 47. Although there did appear to be 2 fuses that are separate for usb charging in rhd models which might not need the glove box dropping... just listed as C and D

Just check they are ignition fed if thats what u want it to be
