New Owner

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am soon to be a owner of a 2018 Super Estate Sportline with just over 4k on the clock.  Picking it up on Wednesday as it has to have its pre approved checks carried out by the main dealer.

I am changing from a manual Audi A4 Avant to the above with an Automatic gearbox.

It will be the first time owning an auto

Anything I need to be on the lookout for?

Any tips and tricks to be aware of?

Welcome,

One thing you’ll find is that the gearbox mode (economy, normal, sport) always reverts to normal when you switch the car off and on.

So if you like to use the coasting feature of economy mode (equivalent to pressing the clutch in a manual), you have to re-select economy mode in order to switch it back to doing this.

Mode is indicated in the maxidot display by the letter before the gear number (E, D, S).

Also, if you need to quickly switch to Sport mode, e.g. to get out of a busy junction or to overtake, just pull back on the gearstick (it is sprung loaded from the drive position) to switch it to sport mode, then do it again to go back to the previous gearbox mode.

I knew about the sport mode from the test drive, does it really make that much of a difference when pulling away from standstill?

On my 2.0 TDI with DSG it definitely does. Others on here have gone further and added pedal boxes to reduce / eliminate the throttle lag. Personally, I'm happy just to flick it to sport if I need a quick getaway.

Interestingly when my L&K 220 is in E mode the car remembers it when the vehicle is switched off and you come back to it next time. I don't drive mine too often as I work from home and it could be 2 weeks before I drive it again. E is still selected and appears in the maxidot.

To the OP the DSG gearbox is great. I have driven automatics for over 20 years and this one is one of the best. I have never had an issue with any autobox in all those years and don't envisage any issue with the DSG either.

Just put the selector in drive and press the fast pedal. Enjoy your new Sportline.

Get the DSG oil changed every 40K.  It is not a DIY job.  Skoda charge something like £179.00.  Worth it for peace of mind (and keeping the warranty intact). I agree with TerryMcK.  My previous car was an A6 Avant with DSG.  IMHO the Superb is as good, in fact my Superb has more toys than the A6.  Previously had an Auto Mondeo top spec and before that older Auto's.  Never experienced any issues with autos/DSG's.  Wouldn't go back to a manual ever again.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned but you have "LAUNCH CONTROL"  Provides around 2 seconds of fun and wipes a thousand miles off your tires.

You might find as I did the first few miles that the gearbox engages and sometimes doesn't engage fast enough,,, just bedding in. Im at 12 k and its a joy
