Octy vRS - Spare Wheel/Toolkit

Featured Replies

Firstly I'd like to apologise. I have searched this forum and I have found a number of threads on this - but having spent the last hour reading through them all, I'm still not 100% sure what I am looking for :)

So, am now actually shopping for a new Car. Looking at 2017 vRS' and the two I've actually been to look at so far have both had the "gunk can" rather than any form of spare wheel. Having had to use a spare twice on my current car, I must have something that will definitely get me home.

So, from what I can see, the vehicle would have had a space-saver if ordered from the factory. I'm seeing the following two part codes to cover the wheel & toolkit:

5K0601011AA

5E0093860A

I am not however liking the price that comes with these two parts, especially the actual wheel price. I did pick up in one of the threads the following link:

https://www.thewheelshop.co.uk/skoda-octavia-vrs-iii-l-k-18-space-saver-spare-wheel-lifting-jack-and-wheel-brace.html

This looks like a space-saver and toolkit, that would fit the Mk3 vRS and sit flush in the spare wheel well and at a far more sensible price. Has anybody else taken this option? Is this piece of kit any good?

Finally, I "think" there is the option to have a full-size wheel. Now I'm not looking for anything that protrudes from the spare wheel well at all. Alloy would sit slightly raised. I know, I know - but my OCD would just go mad! :)

However, there appears to be an option whereby a 17" Steel wheel with a particular sized tyre would also fit into the well, in combination with the official Skoda Toolkit in the polystyrene. I "think" I'm reading correctly - a 6.5" x 17" steel with a 205 tyre fitted. This would sit flush in the tyre well along with the Skoda repair kit?

Has anybody taken this route? Care to link to the wheel that you purchased?

I'm close to making a purchase. Of the two I've seen, one person wouldn't negotiate on price with me - I wasn't asking for the world, but he was not budging. The other had a few stone chips, but worse a small dent that had "already been taken into consideration when pricing the vehicle" - so I walked from that one too :)

It's just I'll want a "proper" spare in there as soon after I purchase as possible. I assume I'm very safe in saying that the full-size steel spare I've got in the boot of my Mk2 Octy vRS (as per signature) will NOT fit?

Thanks all.

The MK2 spare will most probably be a 16" steel. It may fit but clearance over MK3 VRS brakes could be an issue. Diesels have smaller brakes I believe on later models, so a 16 may be ok on a diesel.

I have a 2017 VRS and the standard (optional) spare is a 18" skinny spacesaver.

I guess a 17" wheel (with the correct profile 205  tyre to match diameter) could be an answer, but the standard foam packing for the jack and tools will probably not fit.  Same goes for a truly full sized spare.

Thank you for the response.

It will be a petrol that I purchase, so the Mk2 Steel spare will have to stay with the outgoing car!

I'll probably source myself a skinny - as I mentioned in my original post, the wheel protruding even slightly from the well will annoy the hell out of me :)

I'm buying from a main dealer, so I'll see if they can get me one in for a reasonable cost, if not I'll keep an eye on Ebay. Who knows, maybe I'll luck out and find a car with one - just seems a £100 option most people didn't bother with, which surprises me.

NEVER use the gunk in a can to repair a puncture, if you do use it the chances of a what would have been a repairable puncture to an irreparable one are almost 100% and you'll need a new tyre, I know that because I did use it and ended up paying over £100 for a new tyre (fitment & balancing inc), instead of just £20-30 to repair it.

That gunk is the work of satan.

Plenty on eBay. Search 18" 5x112 wheels and jack kit.

You can also raise the boot floor by 20mm or so using some dense upholstery foam or insulation board cut to fit around the wheel well which will allow you to use a full size spare. This should also help reduce road noise!

The polystyrene insert can be cut to shape to fit inside a full size spare so don't worry.

If you're buying a 2017 VRS from a main dealer surely they'll will chuck in a spare wheel + tools to make the sale?  If you don't ask.....

It's certainly my intention of asking if they can sort one out for me.

I'm still trying to get a little more for my car as a trade-in than dealers really want to give me.

There seems to be a few of the cars around, so I'm not afraid to walk away, but of course each time I do, my current car devalues a little more :)

Find a local breaker and ask if they can sort you out or try The Wheel Shop

Thanks for the link, always useful to have a supplier for spares.

Back when I had a Mk2 FL I bought a matching full size alloy (from ebay) as a spare, had it refurbished and have transferred it to the Mk3. It cost about £40 for the wheel and another £40 for the refurb. I have only had to use it twice but it gives great peace of mind. The tools etc I just bought from the dealer. When I come to change the car the wheel will come out and the can of gunk and the pump will go back in.

Just got a genuine spare wheel and toolkit for my vRS.

It's the 18" space saver.

Part numbers (from the invoice) as follows:

Wheel & tyre - S5E0601011C

Toolkit - S5E0093860C

£210 to buy as spares, or £100 when the car's specced up; why wouldn't you tick that in the options list?

Not that I've had a puncture in a couple of years, I feel much safer in the knowledge that I can get back home on a safe, rather than damaged tyre...not least hating the idea filling the tyre and wheel with that horrible gunk.

Cheers,

Nick
