1.4 creaking over bumps

Featured Replies

Main question: how long the wishbone bushes are supposed to last?

I have a 1.4, I've owned it for 3 years, so no idea what treatment did it get in its first 6 years. Rubbery noise over speed bumps, I suspected the ARB, it was changed, same noise remained. The bushes do still hold well but they are cracked. When I spray some rubber care on them, they go silent for a while, then the damn creak comes back. I'm starting to regret not having the wb bushes replaced when the ARB's were done.

I wonder do uprated bushes exist like for the MkI? I don't want to go sporty beacuse the roughness of the roads around me. Thanks a million!

Rear seats?

had the exact issue, on every speed bump or pothole. Turned out to be the ARB bushes, I took them off and rubbed some grease and it was all gone. It drove me insane for 4 months before i figure it out. I sprayed silicone spray on various bits day by day and worked it out which one it was.

No, it's not unfortunately, it's coming from underneath. :-( It's a rubbery clatter, not a metallic one.

Good idea for catching the culprit! Only thing you need: patience! I thought I can get used to it. But noooo, it's annoying, bump, creek, a tiny jolt, creek, aargh.

The bushes are weak by design, I have get them changed out after having finished with the spray check. ARB renewed already.

As well as the suspension you are dealing with is the exhaust mounting and rubbers all good, and also the hand brake cable. These add to the noises as well as suspension

Also the rear door catches that got modified

?  What age is your car?

It'll be 10 years old in 4 months.

I changed my tyres today and sprayed rubber care solution both front and rear bushes. The noise was gone. It won't go away completely until they have been changed. 96k kms on clock. My old Yaris MkI didn't have this bad at all, sold it at 145k. It was soft on shocks though.

...Yaris ARB bushes get all cracked up almost as you drive them out the forecourt but still pass the MOT for years and do eventually rot enough o need replacement but its more likely time or lack of use, rather then use.

I think you know your solution already and often, complete wishbone replacement is a similar cost to removal of tricky bushes as the wishbones are cheap pressed steel versions.  New wishbones will be true and perhaps stiffer then ten year old ones as well!

Just did this job on a Fabia 1.6 TDI. All in all not a difficult job. I replaced wishbones with Lemforder and used a Meyle HD drop links. I inspected ARB bushes and they looked fine at 90k miles on 10 plate.

Give the exhaust hangers a spray too, these can creek/squeek.
