VRS oil change - oil type.

Featured Replies

Hello All,

God I'm posting some on here tonight:thumbup:

According to the dealer the oil doesn't need changing till a grand old 10,000miles or 12months:eek:, not even a first 1000miles service:confused:.

I think i'm going to change the oil after 1000miles for piece of mind as I know what a difference it makes if you do a lot of everyday stop/start driving.

Which is the best oil - Make/Grade?

Thanks

Don't waste your time/money.

Doing regular oil checks/top ups I've not noticed the oil going particularly dark (after 5k miles) on the dip stick, so wouldn't think it needs changing.

Also, do they not usually put in a grade of oil that's particularly suited to helping the engine bed in, then put in one with better lubrication for less engine wear/better performance after first change.... they should if they don't ;)

It's a diesel. The oil will go black in 100 miles so don't worry, thats what it's there for ;)

If you drive your car hard then maybe you should consider changing the oil more frequently than 10,000 miles but I wouldn't worry that much, 10,000 miles is what the car is designed for. The standard service interval for a Saab TiD is 18,000 miles and some Vag cars with variable servicing can go for 20,000 miles between changes.

BTW you know if you do change the oil you need to change the filter too?

For oil grades check out the sticky at the top of the Fabia forum.
