Advice needed re fitting a screen mounted sat nav

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have read the excellent instructions re fitting a sat nav into the top box but I would like to have mine screen mounted . I just cannot see a neat way of getting the power cable from the fuse box onto the top of the dash boured . I have this set up in my VW T4 camper and the cable tucks neatly down at the bottom of the screen when not in use .

Their must be a route but it escapes me . ( I hate having visable cables dangling across the dash )

Any suggestions will be gratefully received

Thanks in advance

 Mike

Take out the box on top of dash. lift up rubber and there are 2 torx holding it in.
Then easy to fish a cable from there to the fuse box.

Hi Urrel thank you for your reply   BUT

while that works for a sat nav in the dash top box it does not work for a sat nav mounted on the screen in the drivers corner of the screen ,

without cutting a hole in the lid you would not be ableto close the lid .

On my camervan I managed to easily route it up the side of the dash with the cable commong out in the corner of the windscreen but on the YETI it appears that there is no access this way .

I mount mine in that corner.
If you remove the fuse box cover and fit a piggyback fuse holder to the rear wiper fuse, you can then fit a cigarette socket for the sat nav behind the bar that holds the fuse box.
You can then plug the sat nav into that and feed the lead up through the corner of the cover.
Result hardly any wire showing.

Sorry, can't photo as "er indoors" has got the car.

Hi Llanigraham

Thats exactly what I was hoping to do But must confess I could not see away of getting the cable up through . How on earth did you manage it ?

did you remove the pillar cover ?

I reqally would appreciate a little more advice from you on this .As stated that is exactly what I hoped to do.

Mike

Don't forget to make sure that your chosen mounting position complies with the C&U regulations regarding "view to the front and windscreen obscuration":

I once found myself following a driver who had a 10" tablet mounted in portrait orientation on top of his dashboard, directly in front of him.  That was not compliant (and IMO was stupidly dangerous - but then just look at the idiots at this time of year who seem to think that clearing frost, ice and snow off their windscreen is beneath their vastly over-valued 'dignity').

The pillar cover comes of fairly easily. It is only clipped in place. Beware of the airbag behind it at the top though

Once off a cable can be fed down to the fuse box area.

The first few photos on this thread should help you!

Mike,
There is a small gap in the top corner between the lid and the dash, and I fed the cable through that. There is no need to remove anything other than the fuse box cover.
