Engine Management light caused by low battery

Featured Replies

I just wanted to share with everyone that  after leaving the car sat for about 9 days the engine light came on and the car went into limp mode.

It was cold outside so we put the heaters on , electric seats, demisters everything and drove away.

On the motorway after about 5 minutes the light came on.

it never happened again and that was about 2 months ago so I put it down to a low charge in the battery. Maybe something to do with the electronic throttle control not getting enough power to work properly?

Anyone else seen this?

Get it scanned for fault codes, that should tell you exactly what the problem is...

It's worth buying a reader to check the alternator charging rate at idle and when you rev the car

also test the battery with a multimeter

you don't want to be stranded in winter with a flat battery

Thank you that’s a good idea

You need the resting voltage of the battery, and the best time to take that is after the car has been "resting" for a couple of hours. Personally I recommend taking it first thing in the morning before the car is started.
If it is below 11.8 your battery is totally goosed.
