New Octavia but want 16 inch wheels not 17

Featured Replies

I'm about to buy a new Octavia SE L but don't like the 225/45 R17 tyres (for potho!e reasons) and would prefer the 205/55 R16 available on other Octavias, including the last four that I have owned.

Does anyone know if this will affect insurance or anything else? I'm off to the dealer tomorrow to see if they will do this.

My dealer refused, but could have 16" fitted as an option...at cost , but no refund on the 17" as fitted , very interested to know what you are told ! Never enquired about any difference on the insurance , so that will also be interesting....oh & was build wk47 & now wk 50 ! Looking more like it will be a "19" plater !

Thanks for the reply. At least my idea doesn't sound proposterous to you! It's a pre-regsitered 68 plate but I don't know about wk no. I am hoping (!) for a free swap! More soon.

Welcome to Briskoda.

Five(ish) years ago, a few Yeti owners were able to get S wheels (16") on their SE models (normally 17") by arranging a special build at the factory via Skoda UK.  (Try searching 16" club in the Yeti section).   Email Skoda UK and see what they say.

A PRE Reg 68 Plate car either has WLTP Approval or was built before the 1st June 2018 to be registered after the 31st August 2018.

Not that important as anyone can change the wheels / tyres,    but a main dealer has to take off and put on another car, or sell them or something.

They can not just put the 17's on some of their stock willy nilly, but some might.

All one can do is ask.

As it is the New 225/45 R 17 Wheels and tyres will sell rather well to someone wanting to downsize from 18's.

The dealer accepted the win-win change and are taking the desired wheels from another pre-reg car fortunately in stock.

I'll check my insurance but not thought to be a problem.

Thanks for all your help. (Though I've only just joined, I have found this website very useful over the years.)

If Factory Fit Option or Dealership fit or Manufacturers recommended sizes for Winter / Snow Chain use etc then there should be no need for any insurance issue,

certainly not for them to charge anything to change anything on a schedule.

Well done mate

Wish my dealer was as co-operative.

Would you be happy to name your dealer for the benefit of other Briskodians?

My dealer might ? be more co-operative once they [eventually] receive the car from Skoda ! - Probably next year !!

The dealer was Arnold Clark.

A further advantage to me was that I didn't need to buy a spare as my old 16" was transferred, saving me £170. Who runs about without a spare wheel?

The dealer was Arnold Clark. The only problem in the whole process of buying the car was that I came home, 80 miles from the dealer, to find that the manual was in Finnish!

Enjoy.

Is the rear number plate on straight?

I believe so though, funnily enough, one letter is blistered and so the plate needs to be replaced.

Is a squint number plate  common?

You may be interested in a new topic that I started showing my fuel consumption from four Octavias over sixteen years.
