Front control arms - Part number?

Featured Replies

My recent MOT threw up an advisory on play in my control arm bushes (car clunks when first pulling away), so I'm looking to replace them.

OEMEPC parts catalogue shows 1K0407151BC (as per attached photo), but there are a number of parts on eBay that end AC. The photo does seem to show 2 styles too, but under 1 part number?

I contacted a seller who said the AC wouldn't fit my car, but are they actually interchangeable?

The difference between the units in the diagram is that one is pressed metal and the other is this weird (and expensive and heavy) welded manufacture.

IIRC, the AC is the welded unit and the BC is the pressed metal.  Both will fit as will anything that fits a Mk5/6 Golf.

Price looks similar (GBP40-50 +P&P for a pattern part)  and some even have the ball joint.

You could also buy the bushes and get a garage to fit them to the arms...

My car is on 128k miles, so I figured I should treat it to more than just the bushes!

Just grabbed a photo of mine on the car, and it looks like the BC version. Would prefer the AC version, but obviously don't want it to not fit for any reason.

Weirdly having this issue this week at the garage.
Jacked the car up to replace console bushes, one side is pressed steel the other is cast. So ordered a replacement steel one as the cast is more recent..... TPS sends a cast one, sent it back, double checked numbers to send correct one.....another cast one comes out to the garage! Mechanic had a word with the chief parts guy at TPS and apparently VW only make cast ones now, so no matter what you order you're gonna get a cast one. Apparently the pressed ones haven't been manufactured since 2012 when 1z chassis production stopped, and its just been spare stock going since

I think it's welded.

The cast version is aluminium alloy.  I think the partno is 1K0407152BF & 1K0407151BF.  Well worth it. 4lb weight saving per side
