Superb tailgate glass

Featured Replies

Hi, all

I have just purchased a March (ex-demo) 2018 Superb Estate, which is to be used as a taxi. The rules here within Wiltshire for public hire require that all rear passenger and hatch/tailgate glasses are no less that 50% light transmission.

The dealer that I purchased from assured me that he had sold many of these vehicles for use as taxis, and that the standard glass is suitable and would pass the stringent Compliance Test, which is made prior to licensing. As I was reassured by the dealer, who gave me the published SKODA specs for the glasses fitted to the Superb range, I bought the car; however, the car failed due to all rear glasses being below 50%. This was despite my having the official figures, which were shown to the licensing officers. A Tintmeter check revealed that the tailgate was 37% and the door glasses were just 33%. As this was a simple mistake, the dealer has paid for all the glasses to be replaced, which was great and saved me having to return the car. National Windscreens have now replaced all but the tailgate glass, which is on ‘back-order’ with no date given for when they will receive the outstanding part. Unfortunately, VAG do NOT have this in stock.

The glasses fitted are the ‘Saint-Grobain Sekurit Green Solar’ standard glass, as fitted to most base models, or as specified when buying new.

Accordingly, does anyone know where I might purchase this glass? The SKODA part number is 3V9845049BNVB, ARGIC Code 7819BGSEAI.

 Many thanks

Dave
