Just wondering. The scout needs a new bulb holder/fitting for the number plate as replaced the bulb twice and still keeps playing up, are the estate and saloon holders the same?

It's a well known area for rust, so just check the area before fitting your new ones or they'll go the same way.

Yeah I noticed the other day. There's a wee blob of rust.. Do the mk3s do the same too?

Can't tell you if estate and hatchbacks have the same part but I can tell you the 2008 or newer Octavias have a bigger bulb housing.... the distance between the screw holes is almost 1 cm longer and the shape is not flush with the body... 

 

If you have a pre-fl like I do, you will have a hard time finding one. After placing 2 orders (both being too big for my car) I gave up and just drilled new holes through the plastic...
