Superb mk11 and dsg hasn’t been serviced

Featured Replies

Good morning all!

I have recently taken delivery of a new to me, a superb 170 dsg Combi and am thrilled with it!!

it has a full history (mainly independent) and I brought the car from its 1st owner.

upon looking through this site I have learned that the service interval for the dsg is 40k and I have no record of this being done. The dealer that had looked after the car for most it’s life, told me that it’s a sealed for life unit and that the oil doesn’t need to be changed.

The car now has 143k miles and the box is working perfectly. I had a company new Touran with a dsg and it’s just as smooth (if not better) than that.

my question is, would you now have the dsg serviced as I intend to keep the car for years to come?

any opinions/views greatly received

many thanks

I'd be a little bit worried about the transmission if it has never been serviced. The dealer who told you it's a sealed for life unit is wrong. It requires a fluid and filter change every 60000 km: you should absolutely have it serviced immediately and hope that it hasn't been damaged by the lack of servicing up to now.

That way my initial view. Thank for your reply

Don't forget the pump filter or is that the 4X4 drive.

Goes to show 'Full Service History' or FULL MAIN DEALER SERVICE HISTORY has nothing to do with Servicing or MAIN DEALERS SERVICING TO MANUFACTURERS GUIDELINES or SCHEDULE.

DSG, Haldex, Brake Fluid and others items might well needing servicing and preventive maintenance.

At least its comforting to hear that a wet clutch VAG DSG box can go 143k miles without ever being serviced. Could be the exception though.

I reckon not many ordinary drivers VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda, not Briskoda members obviously, would ever get their DSG, Haldex etc serviced (until something was obviously wrong). So lots on the used car market.

I agree, as consumers we rely on the “expertise “ of these garages and it seems to be a bit hit and miss.

I don’t believe the previous owner would have turned down the service had he been made aware of it.

i just hope there is no damage to the box. Is there anything I should look out for? The car is going in 2 weeks time for the service .

thanks

I've heard a frightening number of people simply say the following (or something close to it) -  "Don't know, don't care, I'm changing it at the end of the PCP and it's under warranty until then"...

My wifes VW Up came with 3 services. I asked and checked every time that everything that should be done was done and was in the service book or receipt (I noticed that the VW dealer wanted to just hand over the keys and say "all done, all fine").  The tech that was sitting by the desk jockey grinned when I asked the questions.  I heard him quip  "He's planning on keeping the car. He doesn't think it's an ink cartridge."
