Featured Replies

Hi there good people I have a octavia TDF, the sat nav is showing no satellites ie 0/0 to save replacing roof shark antenna I've bought a replacement that plugs into the the back of the CD sat nav unit in the glove box, can any of you good people advise whether it actually does plug into the rear of the unit, if so is there a place at the rear to attach the magnetic antenna to the car for best reception once the unit is removed it is mk3 2014 skoda with amundsen unit,

I opologise for the long post, Ps I'm I novice at removing the unit, any help would be much appreciated, thank you for your time

A good place is under the centre console speaker grill unless you have the full canton. GPS (blue fakra) plugs into the head unit in the glove box.

Not sure if I have centre speaker

Johnnytype2 mate it's something I've never noticed, if not any other places

Many thanks for your time

Hi Johnnytype2 yes I have a center speaker, what is a full canton, if I can remove the speaker how do I do this, I tried looking on the net but no joy, opologise mate for the questions it's just something I've never done before, thank you for your time

if you dont have a canton amp and speaker factory upgrade then you dont have a center speaker but you do have the housing. the grill can be pried off and you can fit the gps under this, keeps it stealth.

hi Johnnytype2 mate i removed the the satnav/cd unit to access the antenna connection in the glove box \but there is very little room to get at the connections at the rear there is a block connector which is black then other colour connections ie white ,blue ect im unsure how to release these as not to damage them ,once ive got them out of the the back of the unit ill be good to run the replacement gps anntena can you advise mate i do opologise if im being a pain

many thanks for your time TDF

the white and black have a clip underneath that pull away from the back then just gently work them out.

the block connector has a lever that pulls to the back to release the connector

I removed the radio screen and attached it to a support bracket there rather than coming down through the grill, you have more room to play with and can route the cables at it’s already done. There isn’t very much room to play with, but you get used to it. Radio screen comes out with the same tools as  the radio, just 4 of them.

Thanks Johnnytype2

I wouldn't rely on that tape to keep it there long term - a car interior and especially the dash is quite a harsh environment - big temperature swings. I would look to using a bracket (looks like there are 4 un-used screws under there) - or even zip ties.

Hi people fitted gps antenna, and it still says GPS no signal, any ideas

  • Author

Just a thought will the antenna have to be a specific type, are there different types of amundsen satnav ie the antenna I got is for amundsen mfd2 if so does it make a difference many thanks TDF

I have a generic one on my car and it shows a GPS fault in the module but works fine. I would suggest perhaps something else is wrong with the radio unit if it’s not picking up satellites. Unless you’ve been sent a dud antenna of course. Have you had the fault codes scanned?

  • Author

Hi sashagrace no regarding the fault code the compass on the maxi dot is  changing evertime I change direction ie little arrow on the top of the screen but I know it's not right but it's changing, Ps could it be a software issue, Ps how would I check the code many thanks for your time TDF

Just a quick update took my car to my friends garage, he did a diagnostic test it showed gps antenna not grounding, he said he attached it to the bulkhead, do these need earthing, one of his workforce fitted it so he's going to have a look at it himself next Thursday, bit gutted tho ill have to put a holiday in from work TDF

I attached mine via it’s own magnet to a dash support mount, works fine.

Hi sashagrace hopefully it's just dislodged or worst case I'll replace antenna

my temp antenna was the cheap type from ebay, it doesnt need grounding. the housing it plastic, cost about £7, works perfectly

  • Author

Hi Johnnytype2 I only give £10 off ebay so do some need grounding and others don't, as I say my mate put it on a proper garage diagnostic machine and it says GPS antenna not grounding or something like that i though you could put them anywhere

That could be the fault mine shows come to think of it. Still works perfectly. If I get chance today I'll scan the car and let you know. Mine does have a fault code for the GPS antenna because it's not an OEM one, it was £7.99 on eBay! Works great though.
