My bushes are beggered ........

Featured Replies

Sorry Keithchesterfield I didn't read your last post before I wrote mine. I bet your problem is worn drop link bushes like mine, both at 14,000 miles.

I have an extended warranty with Skoda but I felt sure that they would charge me £60 to put the car in the workshop and then say that they couldn't find anything wrong, which is why I went to an independent garage. The charge for the parts and 0.6 hours was £125.

I know that I shouldn't have had to pay this but it's worth it to know the suspension is ok. The bonus is that I've found a very good independent VW group specialist.

The Saga continues to a Conclusion.

We could still hear the 'knocking' noise occasionally and decided to take the car to a different Skoda Dealer.

They had the car for an hour or so and their mechanic also heard the noise while driving but couldn't identify where or what caused it in the time available.

The car was booked in for two days this week and there would be a more extensive attempt to find the cause.

The mechanic rang me yesterday to say they had identified the problem and would order the faulty parts and replace them.

They lowered the front subframe into service mode and renewed a defective anti-roll bar - and the noise is eliminated.

I'm thankful that a Skoda dealer has sorted the problem while under warranty but wonder why one dealer has the proficiency to solve it and the other one either hasn't the same level of awareness or, put quite simply, is not as competent.

The low mileage of the car, 15,000 miles, and needing replacement parts is a bit of a worry and my previous Skoda didn't need anything repairing or replacing before we sold it at 50,000 miles and I hope the recent new parts are a 'one off' and we continue to enjoy our Skoda long into the future.

Thanks for all the helpful advice you've given which is much appreciated.

Interesting, I hope things stay good beyond this summer and not return in a few weeks or when the summer weather returns which could point to the typical gearbox mounting failure.
