Interior Lights

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've searched on here and in the owners handbook but I can't find any definite information regarding the interior lights of our Karoq - Should the interior light come on when you switch off the ignition? I'd imagine it should.... but it doesn't, and I can't find a menu setting for it and manual just states that the switch for "Automatic" should be in the centre (Which it is).

Is this by design or am I missing something? (I have an SE-L, with KESSY if that makes a difference)

Cheers,

Steve

I think this is a problem across many group vehicles...….a backward step I'd say considering my 9 year old Golf does as you'd expect.

The interior light comes on when I stop the engine. Mine has KESSY too. Car spec falls between SE and SE-L (Style)

That's interesting......so it can be done then.....

Hmmm, I might drop it into dealers over the next few weeks and see what they say!

I posted something similar on the Kodiaq forum on Facebook, I think a lot of people weren't understanding what I was describing, hence a mix of some saying theirs came on and others that experienced the same as us.

Have you turned the rocker switch in the middle to on has 3 settings on off and on when engine off or key out of ignition

I have thanks, the switch is in the centre position. When the car is unlocked, the lights come on so the switch is in the right position.

Cheers,
Steve

Eureka !! I too have been narked that the interior lights don't come on when unlocking the car, or when switching off ( I have KESSY system). Having studied the manual, I discovered there are 3 versions of the interior light switch arrangements, all a little confusing, but I ventured outside last night in the gusty wet weather with a wee torch & found a switch alongside the lights that I'd not seen before ( only had the Karoq 4 months !!). Pressing it once activated things so I now have lighting inside when I switch off, and that nice cosy glow as all the interior lights illuminate when unlocking from the outside, hence my opening "Eureka"  !

Another unknown switch? Is this down near the headlight rotary knob-thingy?

No, to the left of the actual interior lights.

I've not noticed an extra switch, I have a switch for each of the two individual light, and a central 3-position switch in the middle

Where is this mysterious button?

I have version 3 in those pictures.... Interesting that it says the lights will activate if "The ignition key is removed"... but we have no ignition key. All that gadgetry and technology, and no one thought to run a wire from the stop button to the lights!

In my car it's Button A in the top picture (in Variant 1) - it has the tiny icon of a car with it's door ajar, & when pressed activates the automatic interior lights on/off function. It can be left alone after that, no need to touch it again unless you want the feature cancelled.

When you turn off the ignition (but with the doors still closed) do all the interior lights come on or just the ones at the front, adjacent to the switches shown?

Incidentally, today I drove a KESSY Karoq with version 3 switches.  The interior lights didn't come on when the ignition was switched off, but only when a door was opened (or switched on specifically at the switch).  There were the two very small lights near the main front lights (mentioned by Silver1011 in the Kodiaq thread) but I didn't have time to study how these behaved, nor did I have time to work through the infotainment settings to see if the interior lights could be set to come on when the ignition is turned off.

Button 'A' results in the interior lights coming on when...

- The vehicle is unlocked

- One of the doors is opened

- The ignition key is removed

No mention of turning off the ignition via KESSY.

But it does function (with KESSY system) when ignition is switched off via the start /stop button - I'm living proof of that !

Do you have the panoramic sunroof?  Seems to have different interior light switching.  My sel doesnt turn interior lights on till opening the door also.  Not super bothered tbh, if i need lights on before opening door i'll switch on manually.  I did try when turning off car pressing start stop and holding it for a while and made no difference, it's almost as if the ignition is still on as radio still on till opening door.

I was on a test drive yesterday and the vehicle (SE-L) had 'variant 3' and there didn't seem to be any way of getting the lights to come on when unlocking or when stopping the engine.....the sales guy explained it all away by insisting there was a 'night-time / dark' sensor that was preventing it happening at 11.00 in the morning...…..!

I could almost buy in to that, the interior lights only need to come on when the ambient light drops below a certain level. The light is already being measured by the car as you'll notice via the variable illumination of the dash dials, so in theory they could use the same algorithms to control the interior lights.

But alas, your trusty salesman was wrong, even in the dead of night I'm left sat in the dark.

Given that there is a similar thread over in the Kodiaq forum (linked earlier in this thread) and a conversation on the Kodiaq UK forum on Facebook, all claiming that their interior lights aren't coming on when the ignition is turned off, then either your Karoq is very special indeed, you've genuinely found a hidden feature, or you're mistaken.

Video, or I'm going with the latter :D

Video !?! I've only just found the switch after 4 months, not known for my tecccy abilities ! However, I've realised that as I've been switching off the ignition  via the start / stop button I've also been opening the door ( or my wife on the passenger side has) which has activated the interior lights. Sorry for any confusion :blush, but my "discovery" of said switch has at least stopped me groping around in the dark to turn the interior lights on !
