Safety Recall for Karoq 1.0 TSI Manual - Electronic Parking Brake

Featured Replies

This German website https://www.kfz-betrieb.vogel.de/elektronische-parkbremse-rueckruf-auch-bei-seat-und-skoda-a-780083/ is reporting a recall  -"45H5" - for Karoqs 1.0 TSI with Manual transmission built between July 2017 and August 2018 because of a problem with the electric parking brake (EPB). The recall involves a software update of the brake control unit, that should prevent the EPB from unintentionally releasing itself due to the wrong evaluation of a signal from the gearbox sensor and the vehicle rolling away.

We know how much Skoda / VW UK are on the ball.    Customer and general public safety uppermost in their minds.  They will have Press Release and on their Websites. Not.

No messing about DVSA & Skoda will in discussion and there will be a Recall and not some Service Campaign, or Skoda Secret Service Racall Action Service Campaign.

The DVR (Germany's version of our Department for Transport) have balls, unlike the spineless DfT.

Well this has me worried. Don't like the idea of just waiting to see if a recall will happen here (uk), are we supposed to just hope for the best?

Will ring them tomorrow but fully expect them to say they're unaware of any issue.

Been told there is a recall here too and that letters will be sent out shortly, but it's not urgent... Don't see how an issue with brakes is not urgent.

Also told there are no courtesy cars available which I said isn't good enough for a recall and they managed to find me one.

If a 'Recall' then the DVSA have a website and so do Skoda have a VIN checker for 'Recall Actions'.

DVSA is Safety Critical and Skoda if Safety Related, so yet again Skoda UK can not or will not just let 'owners know' quickly and easily they will eventually maybe contact 'owners or keepers' they have details for,

Otherwise they need 'Registered Keeper' contact details from the DVLA.

eg

This is a 'Recall' to all 'Registered Keepers',  not just someone at a dealership or phoning from one & saying 'There is a Recall' and when asked what for not knowing.

Until we hear officially make sure to leave in gear when parking. Hopefully software update will not take too long and avoid need for waiting on courtesy cars.

If your dealer is located at the bottom of a hill, simply park your affected Karoq at the top of the hill and mention to the dealer that you're sure the electronic parking brake was making some funny noises as you locked it. They'll soon find you a courtesy car :D

Unless the car arrives in the showroom quicker than you do........

Put VIN into DVLA website and find official recall since 5th December and to contact dealer - nothing via Skoda though. No details of recall actually given though

Thanks for that

Tried it for my Nov 18  1.0 SE Nav Plus and there are no  recalls according to DVLA.

^^^ Could that be a Karoq built in September then?

Probably but I haven’t checked.

Mine is booked in to dealer - Dec 19th looks like I might be first for them.

Have now checked - my build date was 18/09/2018 so maybe recall doesn’t apply to my car.

Mine's just gone in. Wanted to give me a Citigo as courtesy car, said too small so I got a Fabia which isn't much better. Don't get how car dealerships can be short of cars. Hopefully won't be in for long.

Let me know how it goes.

Done already was only in a couple of hours so can't complain.

Couple of differences since the update...

Car will now no longer move off using only the clutch. Accelerator has to be touched or the brake holds it which is annoying in certain situations.

Some improvement in how 2nd gear responds at low speeds.

Interesting. Will see what happens next week.

Wouldn't be happy with that, non-affected cars maintain that feature.

I'm not, however overall I'm more pleased than not with the update. The improvement in lower gears, if not huge, is noticeable.

Car done this morning. Usual excellent service from Henry's in Glasgow - had it back by 10.30 all washed and cleaned too. As Tom34 notes you do have to touch the accelerator to get the brake releasing - I'll need to relearn starting fro driveway as previously just lifted clutch. Haven't noticed any difference in driving yet.
