Safety Recall for Karoq 1.0 TSI Manual - Electronic Parking Brake

Featured Replies

Interesting, each time I drive it I feel the difference is more noticeable.

That's 1000 miles since recall work done. Biggest difference is that brake can be reluctant to release when reversing from parking space unless quite a bit of throttle used - so if I remember it's smoother to manually release. Absolutely fine in normal driving - came up really congested M6 yesterday with no problems so only the reversing (minor) issue which I'll mention when gets first service.

My karoq went in for the update a month ago. Since then I've had to bring the car back 4 times because I'm not happy with it. When I start my car and press the accelerator my handbrake isn't disengaging without some serious push on the accelerator. Each time I've brought it back they've said they cannot find an issue.

Has anybody had this problem? It's driving me mad.

I too find that a significant amount of throttle is needed to release the electric brake, but, given that I’ve been driving ‘automatics’ for 35 years without the need for electric brake gizmos I simply have the ‘auto’ functions off on the Karoq.

Our Golf does have ‘hill-hold’ and I like it, but it is the original hill-hold system, that is it only works on hills to stop the car rolling back unlike the Karoq where it comes on every time I stop.........I don’t like the constant pulling against the brakes, so both ‘off’.

Mine went in for the recall work to be done two weeks ago. Since then there have been a couple of issues  where the brake will not release when reversing into a parking space. Occasionally it feels as though the brake is sluggish to disengage when starting off. Will be contacting the dealer next week.

Skoda and 'Simply Clever' might be why the soon to be available Scala Manuals have a manual parking brake.

Vorsprung Durch Technik for the Germans and stuff that works for those building sensible cars in the Czech Republic.  Now all they need is quality brake parts.

Must admit that the 'dragging' in reverse can be annoying so I now manually release brake but as car in for service next week will have a moan but don't expect any help as I'm sure that the new release characteristic is intentional. I'm betting it is overkill on the 'unintentional' release problem triggering the recall.
