Mystery Bulb?

Featured Replies

One of the reversing bulbs on my Octavia FSI Estate blew, so I had to remove the rear light cluster.

In the process, I detached the 2 "little" bulbs, both the upper and the lower, which then got muddled up!

When I turned on the side lights, one of the bulbs illuminated, but when I tried the other lighting switches, the other bulb remained unilluminated.

I would, therefore, be grateful for advice on the bulbs' respective functions, and which should be the upper, and which the lower.

What do they do on the other side?

A mirror image?

Thanks AG Falco

As in the little capless w3w bulbs in rubber holders?

Both have the same function as sidelights and can be fitted in either hole. Sounds like you have a dead bulb...

I'd switch them over and see if the fault stays with the bulb or wiring.

Gents (I'm assuming you're men...!),

Thank you for your replies.

Yes, the capless bulbs, and a mirror image, to the extent that only one bulb works on each side (but the bulb warning light is not on, as it was when the reversing bulb went).

So should there be 2 tail lights on each side?

MR

The tail lights are actually made from four bulbs on each side to give a total of eight bulbs across the rear.

On each side it should form a C shape. The two capless bulbs make up the side. The top is a dual filament also used for the brakes. The bottom is a dual filament also used for the rear fog.

You may only have one rear fog enabled which should be on the drivers side.
