Fabia mk1 Vrs arl turbo, remap and fmic options

Featured Replies

Hi guys, i just bought a Vrs and would like to do the following: fmic, arl turbo and head bolts, remap at 180ish hp.  The car is 2005, production date is 2004 and engine code is ASZ. As far as the turbo is concerned, i have been reading that a arl turbo fits without any mods, plug and play, but there are supposedly two models, and earlier doesnt fit without modifications? Is this true? Now to Fmic.... I've been reading that unless i go for the forge piping kit, i would have to take off my xenon washers.... I am still unsure whether to take out my washers of go Forge.... :( My question is regarding the quality of the Fmics on the market... Some are as low as 120 pounds, others as high as 500? Would something like this be Ok?

On the other hand:

Will the cheaper option do fine?

You get what you pay for but you're not going for big power so any FMIC will be an improvement on the standard SMIC.

I guess you are right. I found this, intercooler and piping together, as i understand.... and at a reasonable price... Please tell me that it clears the xenon washers as well?! :) I think it does. I thought only Forge kit could...

I thought the ARL turbo was plug and play and just needs clocking?

I installed the Airtec FMIC kit you just posted a link to. I don’t have headlight washers (although I have retrofitted xenons) and there was a fair bit of chopping the inside of the front bumper. Take a look through my build thread as it shows you what needs cutting out so you can try and work if it will fit.

Have you got a picture of the inside of the front bumper showing the routing of the washer pipes?

  • Author

Tnx. No, I havent got the picture, but the upper pipe near the headlight is clearly in the way. I guess I was prematurely delighted. The pic with the intercooler mounted in the link must be with the blue piping from the Forge set up?  Forge intercooler is smaller and fits perfecly i have been reading... Pipes are washers friendly, BUT the price is too much really.... And this is without shipping to my country and customs taxes...

Just delete the headlight washers, they're so utterly non-essential, the best thing about having that system is the bigger washer bottle and you can keep that.

I don't understand the fuss.

Just  mot... :)  potential fuss, but i guess ill remove...

If the headlight washers are not installed they can’t fail. They will only fail if they are Installed and don’t work ;) That said, you may have to change the bumper to one without the cut outs etc to get it to got through the mot.

I have Xenons without the headlight washers and it’s not been an issue for the last four mot’s.

i like the headlamp washers, they stop the beam pattern from scattering and blinding people when the lights get dirty in the lovely winter weather we have

So keep 'em then.

In my country if you have Xenons, you must have the washers as well.  As a rule, Oem xenons require manufacturers to fit the washers, whereas halogens could go with or without, right? Oem xenons but no washers equals mot fail... :)  In Serbia, where i live, a year ago I was droving my Altea with 80% tinted windows and aftermarket hid projectors and nobody asked questions.... Now things have changed dramatically..

What about making a combo, Seat Sport and Forge pipes, could it work then? I might bite the bullet and buy forge pipes and some cheaper fmic, and keep the washers... I am going for 180-190hp, not more....

Guys, I forgot to ask one more thing? Can I drive for a few thousand km with ARL turbo and fmic, but on a stock map, just to eliminate hardware as possible gremlins culprits, if any occur?

Yes

Guys, I almost gave up on acount of being unable to source a Forge unit, but i stumbled upon this:

http://www.allardaluminiumproducts.co.uk/skoda-fabia-100-130-pd-tdi.html

Is this any good, any chopping, mods with this... Washers would survive, no doubt... I havent heard anywhere or seen this? What do you think... Where is this upper pipe going, straight to the air box? :) Looks kind of ugly... The section of the upperradiator and plastics look mangled or a bad pic?

http://www.allardaluminiumproducts.co.uk/skoda-fabia-100-130-pd-tdi.html

Allard supply high quality kit so I would expect it to be excellent.

The 'ugly' top pipe would go to the turbo not the airbox.

Check this out, this might

be interesting guys... :)

...or not, £500 + shipping for something that does feckall but look nice for the MOT tester when he's under your car once a year.

Money well spent, and I thought you were short of the stuff.

  • Author

or not...Tnx for the help. So which one, Darkside or Airtec... There is no alternative apart from the two? Darkside has fewer joses and rings, may be better?

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, you just posted an Allard kit link and I told you it was excellent but now you only list Airtec and Darkside, two questions:

Are you actually serious about this, if so what's your budget?

  • Author

Sorry. Money is not the issue. I am looking for a Fmic that would do with as little chopping as possible and be as conceiled as possible.. As there is no Forge available, and no smic that would do for 180bhp, and Allrad looks ugly and stupid...I have decided either Darkside or Airtec Seat Sport...

Who cares what it looks like, it's hidden behind the bumper and the grille, it's all about the performance and the fit.

You're going to have to do lots of cutting and fabrication whatever you choose because the Fabia was never designed to fit a front mount.

I got a nice deal on Airtec :)  Do you know whether Polo 9n crashbar will fit? I can get one cheap...

You may not want to bother fitting a crash bar, many who fitted an FMIC didn't, it masks the airflow.

  • Author

No, too dangerous imo.. And I guess any Ibiza bar will fit... From what I have seen the bumper needs only minor cutting, i guess, which is nice... (I intend to keep the old smic, bar, and washers in case I decided to sell the car...)
