Install extra lights on Skoda Felicia

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have a 1997 Skoda Felicia Estate 1,3 LXI and as the highbeam is a not that great if you compare it to a newer car, I thought I'd fit some extra lights.

However, it didn't really go as planned.

I connected the lights to ground and a relay. The relay is also correctly connected to ground and the battery (+). It also needs to be connected to the high beam cable, which I have trouble to find. I use my multimeter and thought I found that the white cable going the the headlamps is the high beam, but when I connected to it the extra light still don't turn on.

What should I do different do you think?

All answeres are helpful to me.

Draw the schematic of what you did. You can draw it on paper and take a photo of it. Write full details on schematic.

We will have a look at schematic and correct the error.

Hey, thanks!

I'm not sure how to use the prober icons to make a schematic, but I'll draw one as good as I can tomorrow to show you along with a few photos.

@simonswede - In general terms, the switched side of the relay needs connecting to the battery and the auxiliary headlights. The switching side needs a feed from the high beam connector on the dip switch and to earth.

Thanks!

So it's what I've done and I know power goes through the relay. The only issue is that I don't know where to the the power from the high beam.

As I wrote I tried to get it from the white cable going in to the head lights, as I could read that cable metured 0v with low beam and 12v with highbeam. But the auxiliary lights still wont shine.

So my actual question is if anybody knows where I should connect that cable instead? :)

@simonswede - OK, back to first principles. Does the relay trigger if you connect the switching side across a 12v DC feed? It's just a heavy duty switch after all.

It is very important to use a separate fuse for those extra projectors. You should not overload existing circuits.

This is the schematic and installation for extra high beams.

And this is the relay command side.

Hello, thank you for the help! However it was like I've already did. My issue all along was thst the lights was connected to a bad ground with some rust etc. When I fixed it the lights started working.

LED headlights on Felicia? too much cost

An upgrade on stock headlights as LED bulbs or HID as Osram it's fine at lower cost.

Yeah i have had leds for two years now with an apropriate cooling mod on the headlight housing,
Total cost of the project was less that 20 euros and they have been going strong ever since.
And they light much much better

Did you kept the caps ''as is'' or you made a modification?

Some guys make holes for ventilation and some others remove it completely (i wouldn't do this).

I made holes and covered them with metal net they have horked flawlessly i will post some pics later

My favorite brand which has proven to be a work horse also, is C6.
18 watts per bulb around 6000k maybe a tad higher advertised 1800 lumen on high.
Considering that i buy them 3 euros per bulb that is a heck of deal.
Even if they lasted as much as orignal halogens (they surpassed it big time).
Btw i have them for 2 years still fine.

Yeah yeah yeah, I have +100% H4 halogens, and have been using the same bulbs for 6 years.
