Preparing Fabia vRS mk2 for a track day

Featured Replies

Okay guys after purchasing Stug’s vRS a couple of months ago with the following modifications:

 Eibach lowering springs

-H & R Rear anti roll bar

-Stage 1 AMD Remap producing 215Bhp

-Centre resonator removal

-Dipped beam HIDS

I have decided to do a few more tweaks to go and have some fun on the track.

This came about from me doing a supercar day where I got to drive 5 different cars and just fell in love with driving on the track!

So the plans are:

-EBC yellow stuff front pads and ATE super blue brake fluid

-Track day tyres (Nankang Sportnex NS2R 205/40/17) seem good value at 4 for £320 delivered

I am hoping the above will give a fairly capable track car. I know there are other more expensive options re engine tuning, brakes and suspension but can’t really justify more than the above for a bit of fun!

What do you guys think? Have people done similar to their fabia vRS?

Thanks,

Chunk

It might worth buying the 312mm or investing in a bigger brake kit for the track, I'm running 4 pot brembos and they're absolutely fantastic. You can pick some 312mm calipers with carriers for around £100.

Not sure of your car year or done a track day myself but in VCDS the tuning shop changed brake assist for me:

Brake Assist CAVE 2010-2012 VRS = Calm,Strong,Stock,Off (you might want off for track) mine is set to CALM with EBC DISKS + Redstuff pads all year round,

Brakes Assist CTHE 2012-2014 = 0 - 10 reading (i believe) 0 being OFF.

^^^.

Changes available as above.

Brake Assist.

Steering Assist.

XDS Setting .

Okay thanks guys never knew we had so many settings/assists available to change!

My fabia is a 2011 with a CAVE engine.

When I had my superb estate 3.6 I used a guy called Andyvee from this forum to do a number of changes as he doesn’t live that far from me.

Think I will see if he is still active as it was a number of years ago now.

Thanks for the advice

Here you are on the XDS.   There are threads on the Steering Assist as well. i used to change that when using different tyres and less assist for winter tyres.

Are the rear weights off the crash bar do you know?

@Chunk11 - No-one else has mentioned this, but get an oil and filter change about a week before you go, check levels and tyre pressures, and take extra fluids, about 1l of oil and 2 of coolant, with you.

You check tyre pressures before each time you go out on track and afterwards and the temp as well and see what is happening.

With a Twincharger if you lose coolant maybe get that car home.

Use 'Water wetter' maybe , i did.  & 5w 40 FS which is not Castrol.

2 for £1 from China...

Having read through the post about the rear weights would this benefit the handling? There is some suggestion that this may make the car more balanced?!

I know it weighs around 25kg which is a bit of weight saving

It does make the car more balanced. helps with traction just like the longer estate that came with stronger rear springs.

Like a Polo GTI Twincharger.   They put the battery in the boot and no Spare Wheel as standard. & no 'Sandbagging with Ballast Weights'.

No Ballast Weights on a Ibiza, or an A1 Twincharger or even a Mk2 Fabia Monte Carlo diesel.

H&R Rear Anti Roll Bar does help great with turn in although don't try to turn on when on the brake and accelerator as it just cuts the power.

I've got H&R 40mm springs on mine so can't comment on how your springs would be but the H&R's are great.

Planned upgrade on the brakes is a good idea I'm still on 288mm and never had an issue with them at all so haven't changed them for 312mm as long as you have decent pads and fluids you'll be fine.

With tyres do you have a spare set of wheels? if you do i'd recommend contacting some MX5 race teams as in the one make MX5 championship the control tyres are Avon ZZR's 215/40/17 and you can pick them up cheaply. I got a full set which had did 2 practice sessions and plenty left on them for £150 and you do find some well of gentlemen racers who will buy a full set of new tyres near enough every session. I run them on my original wheels and they give amazing grip.

Just been reading through the threads from ‘VrSY’ and ‘FDV’ who both had modified fabia vRS’s.

As much as I would love some more money to do what they did it just isn’t feasable.

I am going to give the brakes a go with upgraded pads/fluid and see how I get on.

The VCDS adaptations are definitely on the list aswell.

i have two sets of standard fabia vRS wheels running 205/40/17 one set has brand new winter tyres and the other set Goodyear summer tyres with approx 4mm tread.

My suggesting is that next year for the track try 215/40 R 17 tyres on the front and leave the 205/40 R 17 on the rear.

Weights off the back, spare wheel out and if you get around to it the battery in the boot.

That is along with the other mods you have.

Have fun and cheaply.

Yeah offski that is the plan once I have done what you have said above.

My wife also uses the car for work so I can’t go too crazy...
