Is the L&K worth it?

Featured Replies

Hey

I’m hoping you guys can help me with something.

I’m looking to get a mk1 Octavia soon, I’ve already decided that I’d like the 1.9 TDi, but at the moment I’m stuck between the Elegance and the Laurin & Klement.

Really, I’d prefer the L&K as it’s the ‘top’ spec, but a good one is quite hard to find, so I’m wondering if it’s worth waiting for a good L&K or to just go for an Elegance.

Can anyone tell me the definitive differences between the two specs and which one to aim for.

Thanks in advance,

John

Hi

I have a Mk1 Octavia 1.9 tdi elegance estate and they’re a great car. The differences between it and the L&K is the L&K has leather interior, heated seats (mostly horrid cream colour), half fis display in the clocks, xenon headlights, leather steering wheel, centre armrest and single CD player with 6 disc changer in the boot. Optional was sat nav head unit.

I think that’s the only differences.

I’ve modified my elegance with a few L&K and vRS upgrades.

I wouldn't hold out for an L&K.

As they will all be over 10 years old and likely have over 100k miles, buy on condition and history.

I believe the L&Ks also had cruise control, not sure if the Elegance did or not, but if not then it can be retrofitted.

I have the hatchback - Leather is dark.

It has a cassette player up front, but 6-disc changer in the boot.

Mine does, yes.

For a full list, I think this list is pretty accurate - Use the drop-downs to compare the different trims: https://www.parkers.co.uk/skoda/octavia/hatchback-1998/review/features-safety-and-equipment/

Well my Elegance (52 reg) has a radio-cassette head, with a stacker in the boot. I wouldn't get an L&K with the hearing aid beige leather that most of them have, because it looks really nasty.

I used to have a Mk1 L&K estate, brilliant car, had a 1.8 turbo engine with 5 valves per cylinder, and very good auto box, but was thirsty if pushed

Very comfy leather seats (although a slightly odd light biscuit colour)

It was Y reg (2001) and from memory the spec included radio-cassette with 6 CD changer in boot, climate control, heated leather seats, cruise control, spare wheel (matching alloy, not a steel wheel)

Might also have had an electric sunroof (my early Mk2 L&K estate had that, but might be mixing them up)

Ours had been the dealerships MD car for 6 months (and was the top spec Skoda at the time), he may have added options as we had sets of both carpet and rubber mats
