Skoda octavia III 1.6tdi 110hp chiptuning

Mcnab

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My name is Mcnab, i'm from Belgium and own a skoda octavia 1.6tdi 110hp manufactured in 2016 with a 5gear manual gearbox.

I would like to have it chiptuned and i found a respectable tuner who can give my octavia 145hp and 308nm after a remap.

The tuner states that the clutch of this octavia with a 5gear gearbox can take up to 380nm so its safe to tune it to 308nm.

Can someone give me some information on how much Nm the clutch can take and how much hp the gearbox of this type of skoda can handle?

Does anyone have information on the turbo that is installed on this engine and the flywheel? Is it of a decent quality or are there some know weak points on this engine?

The tuner i have contacted is a verry respectable tuner, but i want to know the facts before i make a decision wether or not i have it chipped.

The car has now ran about 30.000miles and is just out of warranty.

Greetings

Mcnab

Welcome to the forum !!!!!!!

If you search for the gearbox code then this will lead you to the value you seek.

Gearbox code might be on the sticker inside the boot with the cars colour etc etc.

I think VAG used a 3 digit code once such as 02a

It would be helpful if you completed your profile - for example, my car make and model appears - as a newbie you have to show a bit more patience and respect!

Seasons greetings and good will to all my brothers

I was just asking for information John and my question was posted 2 days ago without getting any reaction so I wanted to 'up' it again.

Didn't mean to be disrespectfull or offend somebody

I'll update my profile. The car make and model is mentioned in the title of my topic.

2 days is a short time if you over 40/ 50 years old.

I would agree if you were the only member on this forum :p

Being 38 myself, it only take two more years before i can relate to you :p

Not quite as I am 57 yrs - thats 50% more.

Anyway this is what I meant:

and I think the younger one is the more immediate access to information is available - and conversely patience decreases.

According to your image, there's not a lot of difference between being 37 and being 57.

No but I think the younger one is the more immediate access to information is available - and conversely patience decreases.

I tell you what - let's swap ages and I will let you decide lol

I think when i was your age I researched modding my fabia 1.9 tdi pd100 to stage 3 180 bhp and 300lb ft (5 speed)

Hahaha and I guess you want to swap wives also then. No thanks John, i'm happy with my life just how it is right now!

I'll figure out myself if i'm blessed enough to become 57 years old.

I've got a Fabia 1.6 TDI with the 5 speed 76k original clutch and its making 204bhp 366 ft lbs 496nm and its been fine.

All depends on how aggressive the map is.

Turbo will be a GTD1244VZ

Those are brutal figures you have right there.

I don't think i will have to be worrying about my clutch then and just have to find me a decent chiptuner instead.

Thanks for the information AMD87 and have a nice day!

couple of dyno sheets

this was my stage 1 map

32496947298_8ca8ea7d58_c.jpg

as you can see you get a huge kick in the torque straight away and that is what can kill clutchs by i ran that map for 6 months and just under 10k which a good 40-50 drag races at crail and 2 trackdays and it was fine.

When it went big turbo in May the map went progressive as you can see so there its a huge amount of torque straight away killing it and alot more flatter.

where abouts are you located might be ale to suggest some places?

Ok that makes sense to me :)

I'm from Belgium so i don't think you can help me out looking for a good chiptuner. There are a lot of chiptuners in Belgium, but only a handfull of them makes good custom maps and have an excellent reputation like dvxperformance, BRP, ASD, EPP and ATH (auto tune heinz).

In the Netherlands, wich is about a one hour drive from where i live, there is VAG specialist and JD engineering who also have an excellent reputation.

They all offer about 140-150 hp and 310nm after a stage 1 tuning (chiptuning).

sometimes travelling that little bit further really is worth it. if you have a look at my project thread youll see what abuse my car has been through

I would have expected the larger turbo to keep supplying good air pressure higher in the rpm range than I see in the chart - perhaps there is more room for improvement at higher rpms?

It can with more fuelling. When it’s went to a couple of rolling road days and the tuners running them have commented on the fuelling not being as much above 4K but I feel that would be pointless as why would you want a diesel revving that high.

Plus it would smoke like hell :D

as you can see it smokes as it builds boost then clears up as the air fuel ratio sorts itself out. If we kept throwing more fuel at it then in theory it could make more power but also would smoke a lot more.

Hi, the mapper either needs to match the fuel to the amount of boost available so you clean the exhaust up and produce good linear power, I think it's a little bit of a myth that diesels can't rev higher, the limiting factor is how the specific fuel ignites, the higher quality fuels ignite more quickly. Also, the car can make more power at higher rpms so you can hold on to gears for slightly longer - I guess it's to much torque that spins the tyres not to much power.. I saw Allards race car accidentally have the electronic rpm limiter removed and it went round to 7k without engine damage.

I didn’t mean that it couldn’t rev higher. I’ve had this engine at 5,500rpm before but on day to day driving there’s no point with the extra feeling above 4K as it rarely gets revved above 3.5-4k even on track or drag racing.

As said before it only smokes as it builds boost then it clears up as you can see on the dyno and on this one racing a focus ST

On the big power builds like the ones you mentioned on my project thread they use nitrous to help lean it out but even then still smoke like a train.
