Superb Classic

Featured Replies

Guys I really want a superb at the moment and am looking at a comfort, are the extras on this worth it compared to the classic? I am looking at the 1.9 tdi.

thanks

Are you buying new or used?

Personally I'd want the Comfort over the Classic but thats just me

I would go Comfort (but then I did).

used, I am finding alot of high milers around. I have been looking at the octavia but the superb looks really nice and I am a fan of the size.

There really isn't that much difference in price between the two specs second hand.

I'd prefer to have a slightly higher mileage and more toys than a newer basic model (though the classic is far from basic anyway)

I have seen a couple of comfort 2.5 tdi for 10,495 with less than 20k that seems pretty good

Look at the servicing costs of the 2.5 tdi over the 1.9 pd 130 before you choose.

Comfort would be (and was) my preference!

The Superb is definitely a mans, as opposed to a womans, type of car, and as we all know, we men quite like our gadgets. Consequently that will be a factor for the next chap who buys your Superb when you sell it, so I would go for the Comfort above the classic. I personally bought an Elegance as I am a button freak when it comes to cars, but to be honest, the comfort seems closer to an Elegance than it does to a classic so I think the comfort is worth the extra money.

yeah thats what I am thinking, what year id the folding rear seat come into the range?

I went for an elegance for the toys. I struggled to find one local, but picked up my 1.9TDI on a 53 plate for £10k

If you can find one cheap enough you would be surprised at the things a classic comes with :D

Surely there aren't that many differences when it comes to button's between the Comfort and the Elegance?

Heated Seats (front and rear)? What else do you guys get in your Elegances?

Obviously you get Sat Nav, Leather, Xenons? and chrome external strips?

What else?

Personally I think its all down to personal preference and the particular car and its price that you are looking at.I used to have a 100bhp classic and never felt that I was driving a 'bottom of the range' car.Loved the cloth and thought it had a really good spec, climate,cd,elec windows, mirrors cental locking etc.I did 36000 miles in just over a year and liked it so much that I upgraded to 2.8 elegance tiptronic with leather.

guys I know how it works with other cars and remap, but what can the pd 100 be remapped to? I am guessing 130 at the most due to injectors etc?

Cant seem to find this by searching

There has always been a bit of a discussion about when the folding seats came in. I got a 54 plate but a Feb 05 car and I have folding seats. It seems that 05 was when they started. I was also told by a dealer that if you buy an 05 car without folding seats then it has probably been on the docks for a while before being registered, mind you, he was trying to sell me a car at the time so who can believe anything that is said under those circumstances.

With regard to Elegance/Comfort differences, I'm not sure there are many. Leather (which is bloody cold in this weather), more chrome (which is personal preference), wood console (which most of us hate), Solids (yeah baby), sat nav unless it's a 54 plate like mine! - not sure what else. Let's be honest, all the Superbs are well equipped.

should i need much persuading to buy a 03 with 50k on the clock? I know this mileage on a diesel but I always have this on my mind when buying a car!

IMHO mileage is not a problem, bought my TDI with 86k on the clock, now it has 97k and no problems at all, goes just like new!!

If you are ever unsure about what mileage a diesel can handle, book a taxi! some of those cars have massive mileages on them, 300k is not out of the ordinary. Look after them and they just don't seem to know when to give up the ghost, they run forever. As long as it has been looked after in the first place of course. You should be able to drive a good bargain as well. The dealer (if it is a dealer) probably wouldn't be interested in selling that car with many more miles on than that, bear that in mind when you try to move it on, but also use that as an excuse to get some more off the price.

The engine may be fine, but things on the rest of the car will start to break/wear out which can be expensive (as I found out). Also worth factoring in which service is next due at the mileage you buy at as you don't really want to be landed with a big bill (eg for the cambelt change) a few months after you've shelled out for the car :D

my tuppence: getting the PD130 over the 100 *is* worth it. it's a big car, and you'll notice those extra 30 horsies, even without looking at remaps.

the elegances are fairly rare and a significant chunk of money over the comforts. not sure if this is because the comfort's pretty well specced and so they didn't sell many elegances. the comfort isn't much over the classic.

i'd say keep your eyes out for a decent PD130 comfort - wait and it will come. i waited about 3 months before mine appeared and am loving it so far.
