New fabia to me with many faults

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to Skoda ownership and I purchased a cheap 2007 1.6 16v with 107k. The faults include a high clutch, noisy tappets ( hydraulic lifters) front windows not working and a leak in the spare wheel well. The rest of the car is all good and solid. The leak is down to a deteriorated vent seal below the rear light. Front driver's door wiring looks like it has been repaired in the past, so I'm thinking it will need replacing! A clutch I can replace for just the cost of the part (£100?) As for the engine, I have no idea what costs would be involved!

So my question is, is it worth spending money on this or should I just run it until the MOT runs out in July? I have a budget of £1000-£1400. I love the way it drives, even with a high clutch. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome.

It sounds well worth spending on and having a car to use.

Hi there, I have got the 1.4 16v fabia and have been driving it for 17000 miles and the tappets have always been noisy but have never caused any problems, i dont think its anything to worry about.

I wish I could get a clutch replaced for that. Dealerships cost around £600 and Mr Clutch around £350. The repaired wiring might need re-doing as they tend to snap so might have snapped again. You can replace with new, which is better but slightly fiddly. As mentioned, the engine might naturally sound  like a bucket of nails. So, your repair bill will be £100, if you live with the noise and fix the wiring yourself, around £250 if you buy the loom and replace it yourself. No idea the cost of the seal but if too expensive, silicone sealant or used!

Are you sure the 'high clutch' is not normal. I have a Roomster  newly bought in 2013 and I complained at the first service that the clutch pedal engaged high (5 years later still the same). I was told that it was the same for all 1.2tsi Roomsters. It is when the clutch slips that it needs replacing. The engines are tappety. I have the 8V so the 16V will be noisier.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I'm not use to a noisy engine, but if its fairly normal and not causing too much damage I will happily put up with it. I have some Castro edge professional 5w-30 oil, wynn's engine flush, wynn's hydraulic valve lifter treatment to use on it over the weekend, so hopefully it might quiet it down a bit!

The clutch is high but not slipping, although it pulls away in second gear easily at a junction with hardly any revs! I have a family friend who would do the clutch as a favour but local to me garages have quoted £325-£350.

All the wiring looks to have been repaired in the loom at some point. There's power to the window switches as they still illuminate, but Windows won't move or mirrors. Also the is no door open warning light on the dash! Hoping a new loom will sort this if not silly money.

The leak is coming from the vent behind the bumper, the rubber seal was broke and all brittle. Silicone sealant will be used.

Over all its still a great car, that is really nippy for 105bhp. Love the steering and handling.
