Superb Elegance alarm fault?

Featured Replies

Warning, Superb Elegance owners, your cars contents are not safe??!!

Unfortunately my Superb Elegance was broken into last month, they took my Sat Nav and whole contents of the inside of the car. ******************************************************* The alarm will only activate if the door or boot is opened???

The police officer that attended my theft had been called to a number of Skoda Superb break-ins; all cars entered exactly the same way. Seems the word is getting around to car thieves.

So it appears the alarm is useless on the Superb. ********************************** So anything inside the car is NOT safe??!

Anyone else come across this? I’m trying to rally as many people as I can to form an official complaint. I (and police officer) don’t feel this fall into the Thatchan approved status that Skoda claim.

Let me know.

John

Mod's Note: Post edited to remove sensitive information on how to break into a Superb and othe vehicles in the VAG range. This problem has previously been highlighted on BBC Watchdog and it does owners no favour to republicise it.

Yeah wonder how the infomation gets around?

Oh yeah like in posts on forums.

So you'd rather have your new leather jacket + personal belongings nicked from your car instead?!!

I'd rather be warned so I can keep my belongings safe and put them in the boot. That's what I'm warning people here. Everything you can visibly see in the car isn't safe??!!

Also to lobby some form of recall to have the alarm system made to Thatchem 1, as advertised by Skoda. Currently it isnt.

Surely it must be easy enough to 'reprogram' the function of windows to ingnore the switches behind the door handle ???????? Or is this too simple ?

I never use the key operated window control anyway so would be happy to give this up for security .

Does anyone know if the system can be reprogrammed to not open the windows ?

If it cant be reprogramed can you simply cut a wire somewhere. Also as the Skodas seem to be made up from bits out of the VAG parts bin this must effect other cars in the VAG range

I would like to say that I am shocked but this is nothing new for me I am afraid.

This was spoken about many years ago it seems now on UK-MKIVs.net and there is one way around it..............buy a de-lock kit from your dealer and then they will struggle to get through the door lock as there isn't one there!!

I am of the opinion that if someone wants to break into your car then they will, regardless of how much security you do or don't have.

I know that probably not very sympathetic but I have had both my last cars broken in to and they both had alarms, etc.

I'm with you Baker, also got the t-shirt for having car broken into with alarm fitted....if they want to break in, they will....just dont leave stuff on display.

Had car broken into recently and had Road Angel and ashtray pinched, ashtray had loose change in !!...so regardless of how long i'm going to be, everything goes into the boot, or into the house at night.

Yeah I forgot to say that the only thing I have on display in the car is the DX unit and that's only because I can't hide it.

If you have all the details of how they do it, you could email [email protected] and alert them to the problem, if they don't already know, and ask what they're doing about it.

At the end of the day, scumbags will just break a window, steal then run anyway. Car alarms are a little pointless IMHO.

Agree its a bit sensless giving full details on how to break into a Superb in a Forum  , thats a few more breakins thats going to happen worldwide - if they didn't know they do now

Pretty happy about having non-electric windows right now...:P

Sad, but true:(

I don't think there's need for global panic though. Any 'professional' thief will know to hit the big button to cancel the detectors before going through the window. Wouldn't they?

I'll keep my stuff in the boot just to be on the safe side.

Agreed.

Perhaps a mod should amend the post.

Bloody hell:eek: First of all, and excuse me for being a bit dumb here, but what catagory is the Superb alarm supposed to be? There was I thinking I wasn't driving the sort of car that drew attention or would be nicked by anyone and that had a quality alarm. Is it the belongings in your car that has attracted them or is it sat nav? I am totally sick to death of these pathetic pieces of scum touching other peoples property, without wanting to sound like a vigilante, the day is coming when the law is going to be taken into the hands of the owners. It will be totally understandable and totally wrong at the same time but if and when it's my cars turn (once again) I will be tempted to do something about it.

To be honest thieves know about this already and the word will be passed around their inner circle without looking on forums. How many of you lot locked your car in a different way today making sure everything was secure?! So my job is done.

I think a recall will solve this problem problem for sure, but need to find enough people to get Skoda to listen.

I'm taking extra precautions now with simple alarm stickers on the window...will make them think twice knowing another alarm system is in place.

I'd rather be warned so I can keep my belongings safe and put them in the boot. That's what I'm warning people here. Everything you can visibly see in the car isn't safe??!!

Thats just common sense.

Is this the same problem that Watchdog highlighted on the Mk4 Golf? As has been said, all cars have weaknesses and any thief who wants a car will find a way to take it, the worst scenario being car-jacking :(

Personally I'd rather they could get into the car without my safety being endangered!

Chris

I don’t want to sound a little ‘objective’ in this response but I doubt that informing Skoda of this problem will do anything at all.

The Superb is as open to being broken in to as the Golf, Bora, Passat, Polo, Octavia and Fabia, they all use the same handles and door locking method (please correct me if I am wrong) and as I stated above in my earlier response, you can buy a ‘de-locking’ kit from your dealer (I have one fitted to mine and previously my Bora) to prevent / deter any potential thieves.

We are constantly being reminded by Police and Councils to lock your belongings away, so don’t invite the thieves to break into your car, leave nothing on display and if they do want to break in then there is little you can do, however driving a Skoda IMO means that most people will walk straight by.

Best regards,

What is a de-locking kit exactly ????

Is this a DIY job or does the garge need to do it ?

How much does this cost ?

Watch this space and I will post up some pictures of what the kit comprises of but simply look at your rear doors or your passenger door and you will see you have no door lock......that's your de-lock kit..........nice and simple.

You can buy it from your dealer and it's a 5 minute DIY fitment job.

I have been thinking of buying those chrome door handle covers that glue on. Would it be worth getting the drivers door without a lock hole and would it achieve the same thing?

Not the same thing at all mate, it may deter the muppet trying to break in but you need to buy the real de-lock kit which replaces your lock barrel with a solid piece of cast metal!!
