Clutch hydraulic issues?

Featured Replies

Hi all, about three months ago my 2011 Octavia scout clutch pedal had dropped overnight to about halfway, I was able to flick the pedal up and drive to work after pumping the clutch. I bleed the clutch and it was fine, I put it down to a slightly low fluid level and i live on a steep hill. Until recently!!

Same symptoms as before so I bled it again and it was fine for a while, so this weekend  i changed the master cyl and initially it bled fine with an ezi bleed, then after driving a short distance it was the same again loads of free play at the top of the pedal stroke and a very low bite point which improves with pumping. I've bled the clutch a few times as per the Skoda workshop manual instructions and its full of air each time which makes me think its drawing in air somewhere?

Has anyone had anything similar, are there any common issues or got any pointers for me? is this likely to be the dreaded concentic slave cyl? There's no sign of any fluid loss

thanks in advance

I'm not sure, is it possible to see it inside the bellhousing?

Any fluid drips at all from the base of the bellhousing . You might be able to remove something like the starter motor and view with an inspection camera (never tried this on this combination of car/engine/gearbox so not 100% sure, but I use an inspection camera for all sorts on a car inc converting headlights to European travel! - bought mine cheap from Aldi).

Double check the metal pipe isn't corroded through (probably not on a 2011 car)

I'm afraid the concentric slave cylinder is known to fail - if it is has it's a gearbox off job I'm afraid and it's usualy wise to fit a clutch kit (it might be contaminated with fluid anyway!) and possibly the DMF whilst everything is in bits.

Can anyone recommend a decent independent garage around Derbyshire?

Has anyone had any luck changing the pipe seals? I'm keen to try everything before I have the gearbox out!! It never seems to lose any fluid just keeps drawing air in somewhere.

So just to help anyone with similar problems, it was the Slave cylinder which has now been changed along with the clutch and DMF!!!

just for info the garage (and some parts manufactures) recommend you don't use a pressure bleeder as it can damage the seals.

Hope thats useful to someone!
