Like that. A lot.

You’ll probably find they’re illegal in the UK as I’m sure front lights must be a continuous white light with the exception of turn signals. You may want to check it before PC Plod gives you a fine for noit knowing.

I do agree what your saying about displaying different coloured bulbs at the front and I fully agree with you BUT I've seen Blue and green bulbs displayed at the front and I don't think Plod really care.

Bit like Mis-spaced number plates, they don't care about them either or full tinted front side windows where you can't even see the driver.

Think the MOT says white, white with blue tint or yellow for front facing lights.

Side lights may only show a yellow/orange light if the whole headlight unit is tinted to show the dipped and main beam in the same colour

But like you say plod probably have their hand full with more important things nowadays.

Thanks for the comments guys. As far as I am aware, you are allowed to show either white or amber to the front of a passenger car.

Also IF these bulbs were the only sidelamp bulbs fitted then I wouldn't have done it, however we have the white LED strip along the bottom of the headlamp unit doing that job well enough, so I figured that as these were just hiding inside the main unit, then it would be fine with amber bulbs.

Cost me £2.50 to do this mod, but I think I am rather delighted. Simple mod!

Edited to add: I wouldn't risk it with any other colour like blue or green or whatever.

Code the US light mod in to match. You can thank me later B)

As others have said I suppose it comes down to priorities for the police

Anyway if you’re really bored and need to know

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/made

7.  Colour:

White or, if incorporated in a headlamp which is capable of emitting only a yellow light, yellow

Bmw 5 series E60's have stuck on front indicators though. Certainly the earlier ones and the ones with halogen headlights.

That was euro spec and not just for our yankee cousins

^^^ Position lights and well discussed on Pistonheads etc.

Special lights for special people and puts some amber in their lives as the indicators are deleted or redundant.

Looking through that legislation, I find this:

(2) No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light, except–

(a)amber light from a direction indicator or side marker lamp;

So should be fine right?

Thats rear lights side marker is on the side of the vehicle ( within 1m of rear of vehicle and can be red or amber ) and consequently may be visible to the rear if incorporated into the rear lamp unit.

Side marker lamps are those on longer vehicles like truck trailers.

Vehicles over 6m in length but are also fitted to certain vehicles that are sold outside the european type approval scheme that may require them due to local law ( Japan for example )
