auto light coding

Featured Replies

Hi, I own a 2009 Octavia estate elegance which came with auto wipers. I know I have to wire in an additional wire for an auto light switch but does anyone know how i code the rain/light sensor or body control module to activate the auto light function through the original sensor in the windscreen?

Thanks in advance

Shamus

I would like a refresh on this subject as well, I have bought the auto light switch and the cable and terminals to retrofit the missing wire and its a job I would like to do during this down period.

Anyone?

Should be pretty self explanatory if I recall, it'll be something like Assistance driving light active on a FL with a BCM. Some cars also have the wire pre-installed :)

Post an autoscan to show what's fitted and how it's coded...

It may be self explanatory if you are using vagcom, but I'm changing the bytes using a scanner.

I have however now found out how to do it, if anyone requires it.

It's Byte 17 in the body control module coding, the default value should be 00 (00000000) which needs to be changed to 70 (01110000). There is a mention of cornering lights in that byte too which says that it should be 71 (01110001) but I can't tell if this is for fog light cornering lights or dynamic cornering lights (if any one else knows please let me know)

Hope this helps other people.

You didn't mention what you were using to change the coding and as most use VCDS, I'd assumed you would too.

The 'default' for byte 17 will depend on what equipment is fitted so although 00 might be the default for your car, it won't be for everyone.

I think only byte 17, bit 4 is needed for auto headlights. The changes you've made has probably also enabled coming and leaving home lights too. As for byte 17, bit 0, that's probably for separate cornering lights rather than cornering fogs. For cornering fogs, it's probably byte 14 bit 7.

No guarantee the above is correct for your car as it'll depend what module is fitted...

Default of 00 is from skoda technical and the enabling code is from them too. All those codes come from ODIS functions and yes it has enabled coming and leaving home lights also. As for the cornering lights I think I'll leave that coding out of mine for now.

Thanks

Shamus
