Rapids replacement - SCALA !

Featured Replies

I would rather have seen a stretched Fabia than the Scala with the wheelbase increased by 6"...and where's that new 1.5 litre turbo-diesel that VW have been promising us?

Price in Poland at the moment for an entry level Fabia and Scala is £9,000 and £13,500 respectively. Entry level Fabia in Poland is non-turbo 1 litre petrol, whereas entry level Scala in Poland is turbo 1 litre petrol. But still, 50% more for an entry level Scala is a bit steep.

Poland prices for Skoda cars (I think we're being ripped off here in the UK):

Has any one bought a Scala and previously had a Rapid or Toledo. If so how does the Rapid compare to its replacement?

Prices are based on what the market will bear. There are good deals on Skoda models a year or two after introduction so wait for the offers.

The UK and the other 27 EU members are supposed to be a single market. It doesn't sound like a single market to me, when UK car buyers are being charged a lot more than some of the other countries in the "single market".

On the Russian market, you can get a brand new Skoda Rapid for £9,000 or even a Monte Carlo version for £12,000.

Don't look at the much lower prices in India or you really will feel like you've been done over. The high prices in the UK are only maintained due to public ignorance.

@Carlston

Do you live in the UK and what cars do you buy?

The UK never joined the Euro Zone / ERM2,

but then neither did the Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Denmark or Sweden.

'Simply Clever'  If you want a cheap Skoda Rapid then move to Russia.

They were available here and not that many wanted them.

If you want a cheap Scala then get one from Poland, but then they will be cheap in the UK soon enough.

Pre-reg and much discounted.

Same goes with India and cheap cars, off you go and do a home swap with someone that will happily want to come to the UK and pay more for their cars.

Indian vehicles are built to a price point with subsequent compromises. for safety/performance/quality/options by western standards.

Large Indian import tariffs ensure only locally manufactured items are really price competitive and a big player in the Indian market is Suzuki.  Despite their low sell prices Suzuki surprisingly achieve some of the best ROFE in the industry by international standards.

UK car prices are cheap compared to Ireland, Denmark or Scandinavian countries, judging by prices quoted from members of this forum.

Australia is slightly cheaper than the UK for most lower price vehicles (tax mainly I think local 10% GST) but we complain at the prices we are charged for Porsche/Merc/Audi (local luxury car tax a factor) compared to the USA.

We won't get the Scala in Aus for a while (complying with those ADR's the main reason) but the price here relative to the Octavia 4 is going to be a major factor for me.

Suzuki's built in Hungary are of good quality and funnily like Hyndai built in the Czech Republic or Kia in Slovakia the interiors can stay dry and the AC / Climate control keep inside windows from steaming up.

Odd that Central European built VW Group cars can not always do that.
