beep 3 times and red flashing exclamation

Featured Replies

happy new year guys!

just got my car back from insurance claim. the guy brought it back and failed to tell me about the flashing red light so i thought i would try sort it myself.

basically when i start the car up it beeps 3 times and there is a red flashing exclamation on the dashboard but no idea what it means, can anyone shine any light on this matter please?

many thanks

isn't that the brake system

It broke whilst it was at the body shop; their problem.

Was the car damaged in an accident?

Bodyshop has to have 'electric checks carried out' as part of the job, not just body work,  if not by them with someone with all the gear and more than an idea.

So back to them for that to be done, or contact your insurer and have them arrange it to be collected and a courtesy car dropped off.

hi guys, many thanks for the replies :)

i was going to ring them and complain but can i really be bothered to wait god knows how long to get my car back?

anyway i went to check the brake fluid and it was near non-existence :o so off to halfords i go and topped it up and the problem has been solved :)

Trouble is, if you don't want to involve them with anything any more, you will not be doing much by reporting them to their HQ and/or the insurance company that sent your car their way, bother bother!

Maybe a bit concerning that it needed the fluid topped up, now if they had been working on the brakes/clutch then any proper mechanic would have kept the fluid level well up, so is there another "emerging" issue that will bit you on the bottom as you have accepted that car in that condition, then topped up the fluid? Knowing that that issue was present but doing nothing other than topping the fluid up might make it look like you are to blame partially if things go bad, I'd be making plans to return that car asap and force a loan car out of them as they seem to have messed up - or your insurance company as being the provider of this rework, need to get another car to you asap.

sounds like oil pressure

?

Is this the 1.2 60ps car?    Is the Oil Pressure not a 'Red Oil Can' symbol.

i will ring them toorrow and asked why the brake fluid was empty, i have a feeling they must have just forgotten to top it up but i still found it strange that the driver didnt pick up the warning

yeah a bus crashed into my car when it was parked.

yes mine is 1.2 60bhp.

nice to see the problem has been solved

I would be more interested in finding out where the brake fluid had gone is there a leak somewhere where a pipe has been damaged for instance ?

when they repaired my car, they must have took the brake pipe off and the brake fluid must have leaked out and they will have forgotten to fill it up.

have checked again and its still full :)

In that case the brake system would need bleeding surely ? if the system has been opened up and  fluid has leaked out you can't just fill the master cylinder and declare it fixed.

hmm that is strange,  the brakes are working though.

the brake pedal doesn't feel spongy  at all ?

no it feels like it was before.

They may have bled the system but still allowed it to drop low. As long as it was not too low, you should be ok but if it went down too much, you may have poured fluid straight on to a pocket of air. This will show up sometime. Hopefully, it was above the reservoir's lower limit and just needed topping up. Might well be worth asking them to check, though as they clearly allowed it to go too low.

They would most likely have clamped the brake pipe, done the fix and then bled the air from where they clamped from. Perhaps ask them to do a FULL fluid change, for peace of mind.
