Anyone use cable for TV, phone and broadband?

Featured Replies

I'm considering having our new house connected to NTL/telewest/other cable provider.

They all seem to do basic packages of broadband, phone and TV for a reasonable monthly cost.

I remember people a few years ago having problems with phone connection etc. going back to BT - but have things improved?

Have been with NTL 2 or 3 years now, never really had any problems that I can think of to be honest...

Just signed up again to telewest, 3 for

Are areas only covered by one provider or do they share the infrastructure like BT and other phone companies ?

NTL and telewest have now merged but still have separate infrastructures and branding. In any area you will only have one of these available , probably telewest where you are.

Think Telewest/NTL/Cable & Wireless are all the same company now, so they don't compete in the same areas.

AFAIK they use BT lines for the phone, then TV/broadband is done via cable...

So do you still pay BT line rental?

No

Nope , telewest have their own phone system

Oh, right...well, my NT line just uses the BT line which was already in the house...

NTL covers all my needs - wish I got it for £30 pm though

I pay 9.00 phone rental, 17.99 for basic TV and 24.99 for 2Mb broadband, plus I think it's 6.00 for a cheap talk plan evenings and weekends. That's 57.98 and I don't even get stuff like UKTVG2.

I won't even bother adding up my BT line rental, Sky Family pack and ADSL

Really? I pay

I pay 10 quid for the phone rental and £35 for a 4mb net connection (soon to be 10mb for the same price)

Nice thing is I can claim the net connection on my expenses for when I need to work at home

Well a bit of browsing and one phone call later I'm now about £8 better off per month and have a Family Pack instead of Base Pack. If I'd kept it as it was I could have saved another £6! - just goes to show that like Building Society accounts, it pays to keep abreast of the current offerings :D

Are you going to make a donation to Briskoda for being a key link in the information sharing process? ;)

You get TV via your broadband link?

Well, all comes through the same cable... ;)

I meant the overall package includes UKTVG2...as I suspect you'll now find! :D

Two BT lines with ADSL (one Zen, one Pipex) plus NTL broadband (only).

Used to have analogue NTL cable (rubbish & no longer offered) and NTL phone (cancelled but still active for those annoying sales calls).

The one thing I found with NTL is that you WILL get annoying sales type calls, even if you tell them to remove from list, said no every time to 'wanting info or sharing info'.

This unlike BT that does appear to have worked pretty well for the non-call register.

Always worth ringing NTL/TW/BT etc to threaten a switch to 'another company' - you will get a great deal on discounts ;)

In over 5 years we've had one sales call from NTL, which got us the Talk Unlimited plan, which has saved us shedloads of money since we've had it, having offspring who live at the other end of the country.

Boy you must do a lot of surfing! :D

Used to host a couple of game servers so each one had their dedicated uplink.

Nowadays it's handy to keep SWMBO from clogging up my upload bandwidth on NTL ;)

Dedicated IP for the wireless too for security reasons, so if my wireless gets hacked they can't touch my main network :)

Funnily enough, I had a phone call from NTL last night offering me an upgrade to digital cable TV.

I have analogue cable, phone & 1MB broadband atm. Costs me £41.99 per month plus calls. The upgrade to digital (more channels) plus phone & broadband is gonna cost £41.49!! Free evening calls, etc.

No brainer really.

this is what im thinkin of gettin. is the 30 quid just an offer or will it stay that price?

I've got Telewest for broadband which is generally fine although has beena little flaky lately.

When I went onto Telewest I also signed up for the phone but now I'm back on BT. TW was very unreliable (would be incommunicado for days on end) and their Voicemail service is very poor compared to BT Call Minder as it doesn't call you back when you finish a call to let you know there's a message and you can't alter the ringing period before it answers. At least that was the case a couple of years ago.

Had the'NTL'
