DSG 7 Speed Dealers haven't a clue

Featured Replies

Just this morning i have telephoned every dealer within 50 miles of my home, regarding an oil change on 2018 Superb 7 speed DSG, and at each service person tells me a different story, one said it was 40k miles it needed changing, another said 80k miles, one said it was sealed for life whilst last one said same interval as timing belt, unbelievable, are these people trained.

They are not trained if on a Service Desk, not in Motor Mechanics, maybe on a phone, keyboard or Up-selling.

So wet clutch 7 Speed DSG need that Oil change at 40,000 miles, and if in an Audi & called a s-tronic they might say 38,000.

Then Dry Twin Clutch 7 Speed DSG need nothing, apart from when World Wide Recalls or European Service Campaigns.

dry 7 speed need nothing my arse. The oil that came out of my Octavia box looked more like glitter lol.

Contact Skoda UK directly. Be sure to quote your VIN.

Also tell them how rubbish their dealer network is.

@DBT85    So tell us the story of your DQ200 DSG.

How many miles had it done when you changed the oil, & what age of car,

and did it ever get Service Campaign '34F7' and the Synthetic Oil changed to mineral and a software update, or was that not needed on yours?

I'll tell you what I can remember which probably won't help.

It was bought 18 months old with 13k on the clock. Serviced at Skoda dealerships as required. It did have a clutch replaced under warranty as it was suffering a horrible judder on pull away. I do also recall a free oil change to the gearbox which may well have been one of the things you mention but honestly I cannot remember. I know I didn't pay for it so it must have been something official.

About 8 months before I chopped it in it was suffering a problem I've posted about on the forum. Basically it would drive fine until the gearbox went into some kind of limp where it could only select the odd gears. Sometimes a restart would fix it, other time it needed to wait. In the end I took it to a VAG specialist who pulled the oil and showed me what it looked like. A full rebuild later and it was golden.

It was a 60 plate, chopped in 12 months ago so the work was done about 20 months ago. Mileage I think was around 65k but honestly I can't remember.

Now I'm on the 6 speed wet and am happy, though the 7 speed wet might be nice given the motorway mileage I rack up now.

There were duff clutch packs 2009 / 2010 and even later, then Mechatronic Control Units in the 'No Service schedule sealed for life with Synthetic oil DQ200's.

Exactly why in 2012 there was a World Wide recall.   Why the countries that mattered that are not in Europe got extended 100,000 miles Warranties.

Sadly in Europe which is not in the World there was just a Service Campaign started in late 2013 and 2014 in the UK.

Then after 2013 there was '34H5' required starting in 2016 on 2013-2015 DQ200's from some productions.

*There are still no Official Service Schedules or Guidelines on changing oil in DQ200's of which Skoda produce 2,200 a day.

There are TPI's though on some from 2014 to 2018.*

Vorsprung Durch Technik. No chance...

Dealerships Service Staff have never heard of any issues usually. They will even tell owners / drivers with a DQ200 they need oil changes at 40,000 miles.

And people continue to wonder why trusting a garage can be so difficult!

Although sealed for life, I would suggest getting an auto gearbox specialist (member of Fed-auto) to change the fluid after approx 80,000 miles or if you feel there is any sign of jerkiness.

Dealers won’t have much (if any) experience of doing this work, so might not do it correctly.

Dealerships around the UK and Europe had tens of thousands of DQ200 DSG to do '34F7' on from early 2014, changing oil & doing a software update, so why would 'Factory Trained technicians, master techs or even fitters not have experience of doing the work?

*Have all the gear and more than an idea if they have anything between the ears, and were not on a day off every time a DQ200 came in for '34F7'.(

A Voluntary VW Group 'Service Campaign / Recall Action after VW persuading the DVSA that a recall was not required.

Autocar obviously chose never to update this.  Say that many owners had cars that never got done or that had DSG's later fail prematurely.

If you car with a sealed for life DQ200 DSG needs oil changes and since VW never changed their Guidelines or gave the DSG a Service Schedule

to change the Mineral Oil just have VW Group / Skoda pay to have it done....

Skoda produce 2,200 DQ200 a day for 48 applications, so many millions of DQ200 DSG are built by Skoda and in Fabia, Yeti, Rapid, Roomsters, Octavia & Superbs from pre 2013.

From VW building them then Skoda expanding their plant and producions.

Just to clarify, when I said dealers don’t have much experience, I meant repairing them (as in disassembling and rebuilding), not doing a service campaign

The subject is Oil changes, and you are recommending that some with a DQ200 7 Speed DSG might want to have the Oil changed at 80,000 miles.

That is not dismantling, or repairing,  'preventive servicing and maintenance' is what it is,

that is doing a DSG oil change that if a Dealership Technician can not do then are they really trained or qualified?

If a Dealership Workshop for a VW, Skoda, Audi or SEAT are not familiar which the oil change due to Service Campaign '34F7' then that is a very odd situation.

As to Service desk employees then no surprise if they are clueless on DQ200's.

One Service manager told me she drove a Fabia vRS and they never came with an autobox, i told her she must have had a Diesel Mk1 then, but she assured me it was a Mk2 Fabia vRS.

She told me no Service Campaign required as the car was a manual.

I said someone forgot to fit a clutch pedal then.
