I’m thinking more of something to clip on. Not worried about auto dim. I haven’t needed it for the past 50 years so don’t expect to miss it now.

If you place a wide mirror across your auto dim mirror, how are you going to deal with being blinded by another vehicle from behind if you no longer have the auto dim function?

Apart from taking one hand off the wheel whilst you faff around trying to adjust the mirror back to its previous position.

If you want to fit a wider mirror to eliminate blind spots, I use a similar method to this;

I have a much wider mirror fitted - it's the original "Cheetah" Speed Camera detecting one which indicates if a Gatso camera is "live" or not. It gives a great field of view, simply clips onto the existing mirror, & has a special coating to reduce glare. Once installed ( takes just a few seconds) it never needs adjusting & I never have to tilt it to avoid glare. I've now used it in my last 5 cars, swapping it over each time I've  changed cars. I'm sure similar wide angle mirrors ( non detecting though) can be bought on Amazon for about £12. I wouldn't be without the wider mirror, really makes for safer rear view vision.

Haven’t been blinded yet!

If you are being “blinded” by lights in the internal mirror what about the side mirrors?

The internal mirror is nearly 5ft off the ground.  Any car behind would have to be close with their lights on beam to blind you. An automatic dipping internal mirror is just marketing hooha. It would be more important to have dipping side mirrors but of course that would be too expensive.

OK - I'm not talking about a Karoq here, but the auto dipping on my Superb 2 is not hooha. I used to have to use the manual dip on my previous car quite a lot. Now my hand stay on the wheel - that's a good thing.

You have a point about the mirror being high off the ground in your Karoq. However, with all the SUV's carpeting the roads these days - everyone's lights are getting to be at the same height again.

No dips, bends or hills in Suffolk?

As for the side mirrors, it's due to them not transitioning I know just how efficient and effective the main auto dipping mirror is.
